What's going on with all these drivers of modern cars hooning around in icy conditions?

It was -2 degC this morning and folk were still cornering on country lanes like it was a hot summers day.

Don't they know?

Does the car protect them from reality? (car's got traction fingy innit).

As for me it's smooth inputs all the way and no sudden change of direction to provoke loss of grip - that's what I grew up with and I don't fancy leaving it up to the car to sort things out thank you.

We all have winter tyres, ABS, traction control, ESP and, if all of that fails: airbags all over.

So who cares about road conditions? Pedal to the metal with it!

I have noticed these more lately too. And I hate it.

The Wifely Person also freaks out a lot when she sees people zooming up to side road junctions, which makes me even more annoyed (at them, not at her). Poor little bugger isn't the happiest of passengers at the best of times (she has a plethora of health concerns including fibromyalgia, which causes (amongst many other symptoms) balance issues and travel sickness - she also has blood pressure problems) so when people do stupid stuff she gets jumpy and can't relax properly on long journeys. She has to look out the windows because otherwise her motion sickness acts up, so she can't even leave it all up to me and read a book.

I don't mind people driving briskly - just do it appropriately.

Yes I've seen this a lot more recently, where did this insane behaviour come from?!

The indicating right when going straight on at a roundabout thing isn't new, most of my friends were told this by driving instructors in the 1970's. I didn't agree with it at the time but now I'm not so sure. Their argument was you should indicate all the time when approaching or going round it, swapping to the l/h indicator before your exit.

Trouble is nowadays, how do you tell if your dealing with some knob-end that won't indicate, or some =one who doesn't need to cos they're going straight across?

Me, I would rather have more indication than less.

I see, the problem is that I assume people indicating right are turning right, because that's what I was taught!

The problem is that someone not indicating could be turning right or going straight, and someone indicating right could also be turning right or going straight! No wonder everyone's bewildered.

Indicating on roundabouts has always been beyond most people
Start to indicate left as you pass the exit before the one you want.

My pet peeve at the moment however is people trying to join the motorway who meander aimlessly towards the end of the sliproad then have a tantrum if you don't move out of their way.

The lights appear on the sliproad at 0:31 comfortably in front of me. Nothing in front of me or behind me. And the twat slows down just enough to put put himself on an intercept course.

BMW probably expected you to move over? he should have maintained a decent speed in the first place and enough to join the main road up ahead of you like you say.

I believe the indicating right at roundabouts (when intending to go straight on) is fundamentally wrong all it does is confuse other motorists; you can even see the 'intended' indication from the other side of the roundabout and almost have to wait there to see what direction they take.

Note to self: Must get Dash Cam.
