I am in North Dordogne, prob not too far away from your car. I have a lift pump you can have, I changed it earlier this year as occasionaly it didnt start but a quick clonk on the back seat and it would run.

It might help with diagnosis.

Also on Crank sensor, I had a clutch failure a while ago, the sensor collected some metal filings, as it is magnetic, and run like a bag o sh1t, until I removed and cleaned it.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the info and the offer. I'm back in the now and my bro, (who's car it is), is travelling back today.
If we have another go, we have a spare lift pump here and we'll get a crank sensor, plus some other bits.
(Oddly enough mine ran like a bag of nails after a cold start until I changed a dodgy coolant temp sensor - go figure - maybe any intermittent signal can upset the ecu)? :?

Gets better.....
The Faguar refused to start after a dog-walking stop on his way home, but he's got breakdown cover this time....
"Sorry Sir, we can't help you on an Autoroute, you have to call the police".....
"Non Monsieur, we cannot 'elp weeth les problems technicals, but we will call a breakdown serveece"
Cost him £200 and a missed ferry to get the battery changed.
Barring further disasters he'll be home about 1 am.

He got back eventually with no radio/ventillation/aircon etc. (they all stop working when the radio looses the code).

Someone* found him a sub-80k 53-plate 110 executive estate going cheap on Gumtree, which he's gone to potentially buy this afternoon.
