Washing your own car - a dying hobby?

Cheers Guys. It's been a funny few days. Wifey was going in for a minor operation and we found out during the pre-op examination. Wife and I always said we weren't going to have kids so it came as a bit of a shock! But I'm over the moon.

Polo is a funny one. Cars have gotten bigger to the point where I'm sure the doors of the Polo are almost as long as an AX! And yet, parking spaces have remained the same size.

I said I wouldn't have another Ford but we are currently looking at a Ford B-Max 1.6 Petrol with a Powershift 'box. Well... I say 'we', I want a 5 door Polo GTi!

I have to say this generation of 'taller' cars do make for easy access in/out of the seats whilst carrying a baby seat.

Just trying to think of the other unsuitable* cars we had when the kids were very young:

Honda Integra 3-door
Mazda MX6 3-door
BMW Compact 3-door

Just reading about the Powershift boxes in the B-Max. Apparently they are notorious for clutch pack failure. Can't work out if there's a fix or not yet but apparently Ford extended the warranty on the gearbox to 5 years.

I think these may be the same as all the Volvo Forum lads moan about?

I think traditional 'automatic' boxes are best, believe me we own an 'automatic' manual box and it's proper shite.

Agree up to a point...

I'd say a manual box is best.
If you must have some witchcraft in the transmission dept. a traditional, (AKA torque converter) auto is preferable to any of the Powershift/DSG/Agile/Automated Manual aberrations masquerading as 'progress',

Can't find out the service interval for the gearbox however.

Missus changed her mind. She fancied a 2016 Dacia Duster 1.5DCi 4x4 that's up for the same price as the Volvo with just 4k on the clock.

Watch this space.

Dacia's are kinda re-purposed Renault's, I didn't know until recently, but hopefully 'Renault's' without all the complex gizmo's....

I have mixed feelings about them; I like the cheap no-nonsense cars if that's what you're after but fear they come with an image which could affect resale value? maybe it's the sort of thing you should buy new and then keep until its feckered; you should get 10 or 12 years out of one with regular services.

I think it would be cool to transport Bailes_Junior around in the Defender
