Well this is my newly acquired 2000 2.0 HDI 110 GTX.

It's a bit rough and ready at the moment. It had been sat for 4 years shortly after it's mot in 2014 it was parked up and left. Fast forward 4 years and I was asked if I wanted it. So we put a new battery on it and it reluctantly fired up, and later that week it was booked in for an mot. Surprisingly it sailed through with only advisories for pitted discs. After that a new timing belt kit, water pump and new auxiliary belt were fitted coolant flushed and fresh put in and an oil and filter change. It was left at my parents place until this weekend when I went back down to collect it. All I can say is it was a long 180 mile drive home, it certainly wasn't going to be rushed. A few things don't work, the radio seems to have a mind of its own and struggles to find any kind of signal and when it does it looses it shortly after. Also I believe it has cruise control but the stalk doesn't seem to do anything. There's also some broken trim, the rear wiper arm is missing and a big scuff on the front bumper but I think I will tidy up nicely.

The rear boot handle trim is held on with 2 10mm nuts that are accessed by removing the inner grey liner - piece of cake but there are some sharp edges..!
Cruise control is turned on by a push button switch by the drivers right knee - next to the rectangle trim that hides the obd port - it's an arrow with a car shape.
As for the sluggish performance ( bearing in mind your daily is a Porsche ) then I would firstly check the throttle clip is in place and there is no slack in the throttle cable - is common for the clip to fall off and it's surprising how lethargic the car is on part throttle. Secondly unplug the MAF sensor, it's the rectangle grey plug just off the air box - if performance is restored then it's your culprit.

Your car is a semi mux model, so it has an ECU along with a BSI ( body systems interface - most new cars have them ) but it's not as complicated as the fully mux model produced after 2000, so yours is a good one.

I must admit I'm surprised it didn't fail on the handbrake - it's a bit of a poor design

Thanks, a few more things I've noticed since bringing it home yesterday the rear wiper motor comes on for a few seconds when you start the car even when the cruise control button under the dash is pressed and the light comes on the stalk still doesn't do anything and the auto dimming rear view mirror doesn't seem to do anything also the passengers side headlight is full of condensation so that will need pulling and sticking in the airing cupboard.

Looks not bad at all, (increasingly popular colour too).

CC is a bit confusing since there are no indications it's on. It'll only work in 4th or 5th above 30 mph.
The usual suspects if it won't engage are the clutch pedal switch, (try lifting pedal with your foot), or the 'coherence' of the two brake pedal switches.
(One works the stop lights, the other disengages CC when braking. IIRC the stop light switch must operate last when pressing the pedal and open again first as you release the pedal - easier to set up with PP2000 [diagnostics], but doable without).

Thanks for the explanation, once the bugger is fixed I'll give it a go.
Anyway, I nipped out this morning to get the rest of the service bits.



On the way back started being able to smell antifreeze Once home I open the bonnet and was greeted by this.



So I started unscrewing and unbolting, also while at it I removed the passengers side headlight that was full of water.



Engine cover removed, headlight out and cross member unbolted.



Radiator out.



And this is how it is now, hopefully the new radiator will be here tomorrow and I'll be able to get it back together.
Then while at it I replaced the air filter and pollen filter.





Also regarding the sluggishness of the car and after checking the throttle cable wasn't missing its clip I gave it a check and noticed while the clip was there it did have a fair but if slack. So took up the slack and moved the clip a couple of notches, once it's back together I'll see if it's made any difference.

Slack throttle cables have been noted on here before, with noticeable differences once back out on the road.

I admire your determination, that car comes across as a stubborn old Dog "just leave me here to sleep" I'm sure you'll have it wagging its tail again.

You're not kidding, the bottom hose on the radiator needed surgery to remove. I had to cut the fitting the hose goes into off the radiator then gently cut along the sides and prise the plastic apart. The end of the hose is a bit rough but I'll see how it fits on the new radiator then go from there.

I think they're called a 'conrad' ? fitting, lots of earlier D8 owners had trouble with these, it's almost a 'once only' factory joint.

Well what ever they're called they're bloody awful. Anyway while it's having some more down time I've fitted a new stereo as the standard unit doesn't really cut it.



I've gone for a deckless head unit, it saves having dozens of cds in the glove box and having to change them while driving. Plug in the iPod and its all good.







Finding and getting the stereo control stalk harness adapter through was a bit of a pain.





It's a bit if a bloody mess with all the wiring but head unit is about half the size of a standard one so there's plenty of space for it all.

That's a nice neat aftermarket head unit, the adapter plate looks a good fit...hang on...is your outside thermometer reading 95 deg C?

It's on Fahrenheit also the clock is 12 hours out as well. Is it easy to adjust?

Just picked up the new radiator, will hopefully get it fitted later.

Sounds like fun. Back to the radiator, fitted in nicely and hooked up all the pipes including the dodgy bottom hose that had to be cut out of the old radiator. As you can guess the bottom hose wouldn't seal
