Having to slam estate tailgate
Ever since an old boy whacked me up the back end (no damage) I have had to slam it to get it to shut, I'm steadily having to increase the force and soon I'll find the car on the other side of the road!!!...............do I adjust the lock in the tailgate or the one in the slam panel n how do I do it?
Re: Having to slam estate tailgate
Adjusting the striker plate should fix this, there should be a couple of screws into the floor which when loosen'd will allow the latch to move for and aft, move out away from the car slightly then tighten the screws, not to far out though or it will rattle. You could try applying a little oil or grease to it first.

Re: Having to slam estate tailgate
You could have just wound in the rubber stoppers on each corner of the tailgate, same effect just easier
Just like the ones on the bonnet, has your tailgate allways been difficult to shut ?
or has it had some work at the rear end, wouldn't have left the factory like that
& they get losser though use not tighter
just read the org post , please feel free to ignore me

Re: Having to slam estate tailgate
I've often found striker plates need a little adjustment as a car ages, bump damage aside they do tend to need a littke tickle to account for shrinking door rubbers and hinge wear etc.
Tailgates are interesting as they can take quite a few goes to balance the thing shutting easily against it being too loose as Peter said.
