Hi folks,
The dogmobile has had a slight knock from the rear end for some time, which I assumed would be a droplink.
It's changed a bit in the last month or two to a regular knocking noise, particularly when steering very slightly to the right, accompanied by a slight but noticeable droning noise at 50 mph+
I'm thinking this is most likely the n/s/r wheel bearing - anybody had a similar experience? (despite about 200k miles in my two, I've never had a wheel bearing issue before).
If that is the problem, is it simply a case of getting a new hub / pulling the old one off?

Re: Suspect rear wheel bearing problem
I had a mate who owed me a favour did both the rears on my car a while back, all i was getting was a droning noise, not knocking etc.I managed to source 2 genuine hub assemblies from ebay and as far as i know it's just a matter of removing the centre nut and pulling the old hubs off. You'll need to make sure you get the hubs with the correct ABS rings on them and you'll need new nuts and dustcovers if they don't come in the kit.I couldn't get over the difference in the noise in the cabin or lack of it! They must have been going for ages but i had just grown used to the droning.

Re: Suspect rear wheel bearing problem
Thanks for the info young man.
It's just dawned on me that this probably means a set of backplates too.
Anybody seen a better deal than these on fleabay?

Rear knocking on 406's is often the anti-roll bar D-bushes IIRC.
Have you had the wheel in the air to check for play etc?
If you spin the wheel by hand and grab onto the nearest suspension you should be able to 'feel' the bearings rumbling.
Guess who's had 4 x wheel bearings fitted this year?
