front springs Question
I understand the need to lower the 406 but isn't there a need to get stronger/stiffer springs ??? any out there ??
back in the old days of mk1/2 escorts it was the eg: 25mm lower but also 145lb springs ??

Re: front springs Question
There used to be a place called 'Wigan Road Springs' who would make them to your specification, I used them a lot for diesel conversions, don't know if such a place exists now.

Re: front springs Question
There's a need to lower a 406?
I always wished mine had more ground clearance...

Re: front springs Question
You'll find that the eibachs are slightly stiffer anyway
& by the nature of lowering it you are increasing the spring rate.
Don't forget to change your dampers while your in there & your strut top bearings at the minimum.

Re: front springs Question
When my brother lowered his, after putting his exhaust back on about 5 or 6 times, I took off his lowering kit and fitted the correct springs!!!steve_earwig wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 2:23 pm There's a need to lower a 406?I always wished mine had more ground clearance...
After first getting annoyed he thanked me for it later

Re: front springs Question
Just would like to make it handle better, anybody tried stiffer standard height springs ?

Re: front springs Question
Personally I think they got the 406 just about right, very good compromise between comfort and handling. I have a later one with 16" wheels now which had made the ride harder, I'm, going to change them for the 15" from my old one - but then I'm old.

Re: front springs Question
Well as I've said mines 40mm has been for 5 years never caught the exhaust on anything
& that's my driveway with a crest, sleeping policemen, the traffic calming bumps, oh & we regularly go dirt biking
which has me driving down bumpy lumpy dirt tracks with no issue's what so ever.
I'll even post up pictures of my underside & the ride height if needed.
Mine is small compared to some on the 406 face book page, try 120mm drop
Oh & that car is on 20" wheels mine's now on 17's & the ride is fine.
When I first bought it, it was way to boat like for me & I'm 47 so no pup.

Re: front springs Question
How many miles has your stock stuff done, anything past 100k & 15 years old & all your bushes will be way past there best
The damping will have gone way off & all your springs will be saging.
Just all new stuff will make it feel much tauter, then there's a coupe strut brace. That bolt's straight on, coupe 16" wheels
More offset & slightly less sidewall for improved feel.
How deep are your pockets?

Re: front springs Question
I've encountered a few of these outfits I'd like to blow up recently, specially the one that tried to move back into lane 1 while his van was still beside my door....
Sorry, rant over, The clearance looks fine to me.
Wish I'd had the foresight to spend enough on my 406 to keep it tickety-boo.
