Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
Hi all,
Apologies in advance as I know this topic has already been covered to some degree.
I have a 2003 406 HDI 110 S Estate which doesn't have cruise control from the factory. I am looking to find out if anyone knows of anywhere that would be able to do the retrofit for me? Guessing this will have to be somewhere that has Peugeot planet?
It's the only thing missing from what is a cracking motor!
Cheers,
Dan

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
Hi Dan.
Luckily the 2003 model is probably the easiest to do - as you only need the stalk, cowling and brake switch.
If you add your location to your profile or post then maybe a member on here can do the programming for you.... Even supply and fit the parts you need - depending on your budget.
I'm sure the Peugeot dealer can do it for you however you may get wallet raped..!!

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
I don't think you'd find any Garage willing to frig about with something like this, even if they were you'd have to babysit the whole process - even though it's fairly easy like GingerMagic says, I know lots on here used to do this retrofit but I'm talking years ago now.

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
I'd have thought it unlikely, I suspect if you do find someone to do it it'll be another case of "I don't really want to do this, but if the customer is mad enough to pay our exorbitant estimate..."
I think the first step should be to check for the redundant brake switch connector, that'll make the difference between "it's a doddle" and "oh sh*t, do I really want to do this?"
I wonder if they still do after-market cruise controls, my dad had one on a Mazda 626 about 1,000 years ago, all it was was a switch on the dash, a servo and a sensor near the driveshaft, sensing a magnet tied to a driveshaft. And presumably an ecu tucked away somewhere. I much preferred the way cruise worked before all this electronic thingummygiggery anyway. No idea what the damn throttle's doing

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
I was about to say it's likely to be OK on a late model car, until I remembered Steve having to install the extra wiring on his.

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
Thanks for the responses everyone. Looks like if the car has the right set-up then I should be able to do it myself with a little assistance on the coding.
I have had a look around the steering column to determine whether this is going to be possible, but I don't really know what I'm looking for. Have attached some pictures if someone could shed some light on them?
Think this is the right area as per the guide in the link?
I'm based in London but would be willing to travel to get the coding done.
Best,
Dan

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
I could do the whole job for you

Umm, I don't think you'll see much there. Work up the brake pedal and look for the switch, find the connector and then look for a red one floating free somewhere nearby. You may need to stand on your head

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
Under the bottom of the dashboard is a piece of black cardboard type cover with press studs to hold it in place - gently remove this ( it can tear easily ) and this will expose the upper parts of the pedals.
You'll see one connector already on the brake pedal - there will be a similar one but different colour tucked up under the dashboard nearby, possibly taped up.
If you have this, it's a good start.
If you are happy to travel south to Bournemouth I'm happy to try to get this working for you.

Thanks for the advice and offer...GingerMagic wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 8:46 pmIf you are happy to travel south to Bournemouth I'm happy to try to get this working for you.
I have had another look following your instructions. There are a number of wires around the top of the brake pedal. Unless they’re attached I’m not sure I can see one hanging.
Can you determine anything from the picture I’ve attached?
Thanks again for all your help!

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
That red connector that's all gummed up with tape is the one you need - this would plug into a second switch which would sit alongside the white one already fitted.
It's a positive thing to find it

Just one further thing before I order the parts - I heard somewhere that the car needed to have a 'motorised throttle body'? As in not a cable throttle... I'm pretty sure mine has a cable throttle as you can see it under the bonnet on the right hand side.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Dan

And on the end of the cable is... a throttle pot

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
Yeah, it's fly by wire - after the throttle cable ends and the electrickery starts..
All you need is the cruise switch, the collar, the stalk and the cowling - I have already made some enquiries for parts on your behalf...

Re: Garages that do Cruise Control Retrofit
Just to mention, you could get away with using the existing cowling as it has the outline for the cut out, which you can use to make the opening needed. That is what i did on mine.
