10 grand diesel

My old man is having is million mile Volvo S40 company car taken off him because his boss is sick of the constant repair bills coming in nowadays. They have decided not to replace it and given him more money instead.

My dad has decided he likes the Vauxhall Vectra CDTI SRI, ive told him nooooooo there shite get an Audi A4.

What would you get if you had up to 10 grand to spend on a diesel? It does'nt have to hold its value, he's just gonner run it till its dead.

the new vectras are actually quite good..............
for 10k you could do a lot worse, a 407 for example, seriously i love my pugs but the 407/307's are crap, dont kid yourself yes the twin turbo derv engine is nice, but the car is still crap.

330d for 10k? will be a 100k ish model though

honda accord diesels are pretty good in fact the engine won a few awards.

coul go a lot worse then a mondeo tdci st/titanium etc too

Honda Accord, yeah their nice.

Just had another chat with him and he also likes Volvo S60 D5 and Renualt Laguna 2.2 DCI.

Im not so keen on the Renualt but Volvo could be good?

the D5 is a pretty good engine, i dont think ive come across a none runner, apart from one that had no teeth on the flywheel, and a few that have had petrol in, go for the s60 D5 in manual, avoid the 2.4D its a similar engine but so sluggish compared to the D5 which is very rapid

I paid ore n' 24 big ones for my diesel. My 407SW V6 HDi is far from crap. Other than a glitch where it stuck in gear (still driveable, but a pain), which was cured by the stealer resetting the software, I can't really fault it. It's been more reliable than my new BMW 730 Schitzer was.

bimmer 330D is cracking, but it would've required a lot more money to get a new un and the stealer prices for servicing are pathetically high. Depreciation isn't an issue as i'll be keeping it for 11.5 years, until I retire. It's swift, comfy, is wonderfully balanced, has superbly communicative steering thatnks to it's BMW apeing double front wishbone set up, and has more toys as standard for a lot less than the poverty spec 3 series. It's got far more rarity kudos than the 3 series, which outsells both the Vectra and the Mundano.

I like the bimmer - sweet, quick, but a touch too small in the cabin and expensive for no other reason that the unwashed plebs think they're 'prestige' cars, when really anything this side of a mid line 5 series is just mass produced mediocrity. It don't do owt the SW don't manage for a lot less money. A LOT less.

the only thing i dont like about the 330d or any e46 bmw, are the seats, there rock hard, not like the 406 at all

Even my missus old E36 has rock hard crap seats, really difficult to get comfy in them. Apparently it is a MUST to specify the 'sports' seats in any BMW (more money of course).

Having said this, nothing has gone wrong with her 318tds in 1 year......nothing at all

And, having said that I think that my 406 is uber comfy, in fact in spite of all the sooooooo many faults and problems the comfy-wumfy thing is it's party piece. It's always nice to flop into the 6 after a hard day [s]spamming this place[/s] at work and then waft home in air conditioned heated botty uber comfiness.
