Hello All
Sadly, after 11 years with me, my red 2000 7-seater 406 estate is going to cost too much for me to put through the MOT.
It has done 131,000 miles and the bodywork is in very good condition. The interior is good to very good if a little dusty.
The MOT issue is mostly one of welding. Certainly the offside sill needs attention and possibly some more areas underneath. There is also a permanent drain on the battery (0.3A) that I have been told may be a malfunctioning module (At the moment, as the car is not being kept by me (after MOT due on 23rd of June) I pop the quick release terminal on the battery when the car is parked. Then it starts every time I re-connect the terminal). The air-con doesn't work and nor do 2 of the electric windows (though I do have a spare driver door control panel for that).
The problem is that I am sentimental (my children have grown up with this car) and I do not want to scrap it if it can be repaired or re-used elsewhere.
So my question is, what shall I do with my lovely, old car?
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thank you
Ian

Thanks for your reply ddd.
I'm in Sheffield in South Yorkshire.
What is the Facebook group called please? Is it an offshoot of these 406 OC pages?
As you can maybe tell, I don't use Facebook all that often but I'm sure willing to have a go if it saves another car from the scrapheap. Especially this one, sentimental fool as I am.

Thank you, trem1.
I'll send that join request as soon as I can (probably take me a week, mind) and set that ball rolling.
It's looking a bit more hopeful than I imagined. Great stuff.
And thanks for helping me out here you two and pointing me in the right directions. It is much appreciated.
I'll be in touch.

If not it will probably go on Ebay. I got £250 for my wife's 406 with a duff brake servo. I would have changed it but its a pig of a job. She has a C5 now.

I feel with you With 4 growing up kids, these 7-seaters are perfect. It has brought us to so many holidays and other places. When looking in the rear-view mirror you often see the people behind you smiling and waving at the kids in the back seat
My HDI is at 400 k miles and still running strong. Will be tough to let it go when that time comes.

Re: What to do with my 406 estate (7 seater)?
It's daft really as it is (just) a car but there's definitely some emotional charge stored there.
And I wouldn't have it any other way (to (slightly mis) quote Richard Thompson).
Blimey 400k. I wish mine was still able but without the dosh input bit. Hey ho.

Re: What to do with my 406 estate (7 seater)?
My personal opinion is the the 406 is the best car Peugeot ever made, it does everything well, is very reliable and doesn't usually fall to pieces. I have owned at least four of them. The 8 valve diesel engine is almost indestructible and very economical.

Hey trem1
I have just tried to join the Facebook group but I have never used Facebook before and I have no idea if I have indeed joined. Is there any way of checking if I have joined please?
It did let me do a post but that doesn't seem to appear anywhere.
I am totally confused as to what (if anything) I have done.
Please help.
Yours
