Hi,
Does anyone know the part number for the gear knob (and the white plastic sleeve that goes on the shifter itself if they don't come as a set) for a LHD 1997 406? Reverse gear is down and away from the driver without the gating mechanism like RHD HDis. I've found some OEM ones for sale online without pictures (and for lots of money!) so it's hard to narrow it down.
Cheers

Re: 2.0 turbo LHD gear knob part number
Hi,
I had a look around on my DocBackup (ServiceBox) DVDs but I cannot seem to find a single part number for the gear knob. There does not seem to be a separate LHD / RHD variant. The only variants I could find are those for the various vehicle types. And even for a single vehicle type, there is usually a list of available knob variants: leather, plastic, etc.
The sleeve (the "lever gaiter" as it is called on DocBackup) is not listed with color variants, so you might have to find the correct color by looking at the images from the seller.
Do you have a 2.0 petrol with turbo? Like this one? Or is it the 2.0 HDI? I think the HDI was not yet available in 1997.
To get to the right picture on my DocBackup DVDs I need to fill in:
If I choose "406", I get the following choices:

Re: 2.0 turbo LHD gear knob part number
Cheers for looking, the car is a 1997 406estate 2.0 turbo petrol. Engine code is, I believe, XU10 J2TE. So not quite any of the 2.0 options I'm afraid

Hi,
Good to know it's the 8v TE!
It looks like it's 2403AP from the catalogue but the white plastic sleeve (not the leather gaiter) is missing from the diagram. I asked on the FB 406 owner's group and someone replied saying early cars had a thinner gear stick whereas later cars have a thicker one so the former needs a sleeve adapter to work with newer gear knobs. Not sure if Ebay links are ok but see here for a picture:

Re: 2.0 turbo LHD gear knob part number
I guess that is indeed the part you need.
The while plastic sleeve adapter seems to be added in case yours is the "earlier" model, with the thinner stick. But in your case I don't think you need it.Not sure if Ebay links are ok but see here for a picture:

Re: 2.0 turbo LHD gear knob part number
I guess that kind of makes sense
I'm not sure if the ad in the ebay link is selling the whole thing or just the adaptor
Although ebay is also suggesting someone selling 2 adaptors so I guess there's more. Why anyone would need 2 of the things is beyond me...

I think it's the whole thing but I've ordered a set from another seller so hopefully it fits...
