Hello All,
I'm new to the world of Pug after defecting from the Xantia world.
My new (to me) 406lx has the high frequency keys of which only one works, can I reprogram the car to accept the duff key?
As always any tips are appreciated.
Steve

Good choice on the car change!!
Welcome by the way.
Yes you can re-program it ( as long as it actually works!). All you need to do is ........
1. Turn the Ignition switch to the accessory position using the key that you don't want to program.
2. Hold the Plip key close to the central locking receiver mounted in the roof console (I think within 10 seconds)
3. Press the large plip button and then the small plip button on the remote.
4. Turn the ignition OFF.
5. After 5 seconds the Plip should now operate.
This sequence does work as I have done it myself.

Hahaha! Excellent! I think the 406 would make a great ECTO-1stevenlizuk wrote:98 406 Estate LX 2.1td in white (Anyone call Ghostbusters?)

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Thanks for the tip.
I have been looking on the net for a soundbite of the ECTO-1 siren so I can burn it to a CD.
It's a mates stag do soon and I was going to have the siren blaring, jump from the car and hose him with a foam extinguisher.
You have to make your own fun in this life.
Cheers

good choice for defection I'd say! I too left xantia world for the pug 2.1td and I've never looked back (yet!). The xantia I had was a great car to drive but a total nightmare to own. I'd say it was the single most expensive thing I ever owned - and that doesn't include the cost of buying it. It finally went down after only 127k when the alternator mysteriously sheered off from the engine block (i got £55 for it). I wasn't happy, but at least it permitted me to return to a peugeot (i still miss my 406gld estate, what a solid car that was - until a stagecoach bus drove into it, and refused to admit responsibility into the deal).
Hope your 2.1 is as good for you as mine seems to be.

The Xantia had the 2.1 as well which is why I looked for a 406 with the same engine.
The Xantia was chipped so it put out about 130 bhp but also had more torque than a torquey thing.
Fun to drive but as you say a total dog to own.
I think I spent as much looking after it as I paid for it.
Engine still pulled like a train with 170k on it so it seemed like a good idea to find another car with the same, if it wasn't a Xantia all the better.
Cheers
