V6 Est Cambelt change price?

I'm wondering about who to use:

the backstreet fella sounded like he'd not done it before as he didn't know how much work would be involved, his price was £700

the well-known independent garage said 7.5 hours, quoted for all proper antifreeze, oil, parts etc and said an ex-Pug specialist would be doing it, price between £825 and £900

the Pug dealers said £650 for the belts and pump and then if any tensioners needed replacing then £115 a piece, could be all three, taking it over a grand.

Went for the middle, and it ended up costing £1200, and now there's a water/coolant leak at the front so I'm without wheels until Tues.

That's why I aint doing mine for another 5k at least. It's only on 62k but can run on a few more miles until I can afford it.

Didn't realise a V6 cambelt was that much though? Pug dealer quoted me £450 for belts, tenisoners and labour for my 2.0 16v.

And I thought I was bad spending over £600 on mine in a month.

and i complained when i spent £220 having my clutch replaced last year

, from what i been reading on here im glad i got a d8 and not a d9 cos it aint really cost me more than that for 2 years and 60k miles , id probably be spending that everyother month on a d9

I had a look today and it's screenwash dripping at the front. He must have either not reconnected the hoses for the front washers (the rear washer is working) or it is snagged where he replaced the wheel arch etc. At least I can drive it though, I'll drop it off there after work on Tuesday.

What should I say, or get some bargaining for - free labour on a new radiator change? Half price service?

So I got quoted £815 for the job, took it there rather than the main dealers, and somehow he charged me £1250 AND f***d up the windscreen wash hoses, so it needs to go back there - AT THEIR CONVENIENCE according to the receptionist.

Shall I name and shame this excellent garage?

jesus there is seriously a good market for this, might have to start boshing these out on the side out of work hours as a little earner.
i know i could do the 4 cylinder for sub £200 including belt and tensioners and make it worth my while.not sure on the v6 but i would not of thought much more than £350 even if you have to lift the engine.

have to wait till my mortgage goes through and see how things pan out (just bought a workshop for my house too and it out with with a lathe, mill,2x compressors, pillar drill and a few other goodies aswell)

The total for labour was £500 inc VAT, at 7 hours they said. It's not an engine out job, it's right wheel off, wheelarch out and tackle it that way.

That leaves £750 for a few bits of metal, a pump and a big rubber band.

if theres room for that then theres no way that should be a 7 hour job, when your paying someone a silly hourly rate you expect them to work not fk about for 7 hours.
parts i expect wont be more than £150 although ill have to look into that
the price you paid is obscene tbh

All the parts were genuine Pug ones he said, about £80 for the water pump, and £70 for the belt. Then he claimed that Peuugeot had 'modified' the rollers/tensioners so they needed more money from me. Thing is I have paid for it now as I needed the car this week. I'm pi**ed off as I wish I had gone to the dealer now to be ripped off by them.
