Car skating
Hi,
I was a passenger in my 406 (on route the NHS drop-in centre as I had badly sprained my ankle), when we went round a corner at a reasonably safe speed. And the back ends of the car let go. Luckily the driver managed to hold it and we did not hit anything.
Any ideas what may have caused this? (I am thinking greasy roads, although the BMW behind had no problems) just amazed that the 406 would do this. (going to check if she is leaking oil/diesel tomorrow)
I did have to different makes of tyres on the back as I was using the spear (due to a puncture), although both tyres have loads of rubber on them and are in good condition, could it be the suspension, although I have had both rear springs replaced.

unless you've got a saloon, they dont slide nowhere near as well as the estate, wet roundabouts can be quite entertaining

I have a 406 estate with a WORKING HANDBRAKE ;) Lovely fun for high-speed oversteer in the right places! It just so happens I know of a few 270 degree bends with 2 forwards lanes and low traffic...
Actually it's pretty damn tough to get lift-off oversteer in the dry on my turbo - you've got to take it well above its happy zone and into territory where the thing's screaming but delivering naff all power (5000rpm) otherwise the engine braking just ain't enough to do anything

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

All this talk of ''lift off oversteer'' is the talk of the track!
You can't really practice this on public roads beacause it requires high speed and a lot of room.
I tried once on a roundabout and all I got was hideous body roll, a hint of rear-end action and some funny looks and that was it. You can't possibly keep the rear end out for long enough.
Diesel spilt on road.
Carry on............
