Electrical Gremlins...... mystery flashing hazards

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Electrical Gremlins...... mystery flashing hazards

Post by Nick Baker »

Hello everyone! My first post as a 406 owner..... (great site by the way.)

Just bought a year 2000 W reg HDi 110 estate with 38k miles (as about to tow a caravan around Italy, France and Spain for 6 months) ...... everything spot on with it apart from when I open car / lock the car with the remote and the hazard lights start flashing....... It doesn't happen everytime (but also happened once when I turned on the radio and once when I opened the driver's door!)

I've searched and come across BSI faults causing other electric problems. Does this sound the likely cause? I can cope with switching off the hazards now and again but obviously am worried that it may develop more serious faults whilst a long way from home.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

Nick

Hello matey.

It does sound a bit BSi-ish but I can't tell you exactly. Hopefully I think it will be something very simple. It might even be a case of disconnecting the battery etc or even re-setting the BSi (I can't recommend this from any of my own experience though).

That's very low mileage for a 7 year old car - who owned it? Stevie Wonder? :P

Blimey........so that's who S. Wonder referred to on the documents........ and it explains the battered front of the car! His guide dog obviously couldn't bark "STOP" fast enough! :cheesy: I was a bit sceptical at first as it is low mileage for the year, but service history with Peugeot dealer (or should that be stealer?) , HPI report and overall condition do back it up..... I hope!

Ta for the replies..... I'm hoping it is something simple but wanted to check with seasoned 406 owners to see if it is anything glaringly obvious or alarming and needs fixing before we set off.

Aye, could be something dodgy with the alarm causing it to go off all the time, so the previous owner had the siren disconnected?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

You can disable the interior sensors on this car, it's down by the handbrake.

If you have no manual I'll look in mine to see how you do it because I can't remember. My alarm was always going off on windy days and I turned off the sensors.
