Wireless modems

I have a BT wireless home hub in my gaff and to put it bluntly, its shite, one minute i have full signal the next nothing, currently im using the ethernet lead all the time which trails all over the place.

Please help i know jack about computers and stuff, which is the best wireless modem to buy which does'nt cost mega bucks?

I would recommend this. The reason? Because it works on BT ADSL lines. I've installed a few of them recently.

The most important reason? It comes with a Lifetime warranty. Yes that's right, Belkin are probably the only I.T. company that still offer a lifetime warranty on their products.

My recommendation would be for the Netgear DG834, had one for three years now and it's never let me down.

I recommend hard wiring into your PC with some RJ45 LAN Cable (much faster and less fu**ing around), Wireless internet is s**t (IMO).

I've got a home hub, and it's the bollox. Reliable, very fast. Nae probs.

well i have a BT homehub and so do a few friends, and we're
all of the same oppinion there absolute shite. if u want to use
them without the cable whether ethernet or usb, then so the
supposed engineers at bt say that the hub doesn't work
correctly with either belkin or netgear wireless adaptors.
but TBH the ethernet cable is way faster and much more
reliable than going wireless, i'm currently using a 10m
ethernet cable routed round a door frame to my hub.

I know next to f*ck all about these things but will comment anyway (as usual

).......

My feelings are that if they can't even make your mobile phone work without the call breaking up all the time then how the hell can you get a reliable internet connection 'through the air'

*goes downstairs to make cup of tea because the computer is fixed upstairs on a stupid wire thing, oh wait.....*

Hmmmm what to do? I thought if i got another wireless modem it would work fine. I just guessed BT bult these home hub things on a budget and if i got a decent one it would be fine. When plugged in with the ethernet its plenty quick enough. Now im stumped........

well you can do a few things 1 is to buy a new hub which is something
you shouldn't have to do, 2 phone bt tell them you have a faulty hub
and wait x amount of days for them to send you a replacement,
3 you could buy a us robotics wireless adaptor, 4 buy an extra long
ethernet cable (like my 10m one), 5 buy a extra long cable from
the hub to the phone filter. and route them out of sight

Done the phoning BT thing. All they say is "we've checked your line and it has come up with no faults"

I would rather be wireless because i only have a laptop.

your line is probably fine its the home hub thats faulty
one of my mates is on his 3rd hub and anytime his wife or
daughter try to connect wirelessly with their laptops
they have problems, but with his old bt wireless modem
they never had any problems

i used a linksys wireless router for a while until one day it decided it wouldnt work anymore. All the lights glow green, which is right... except for the 'internet' light, its red... for no reason.

Switched back to the BT 'speedtouch' box thingy, it was faultless up until about 3 days ago, keeps randomly loosing connection now.

Fuckin sickened with these things!
