Helicopter (and prop-driven aeroplane) rotors never change speed - the pilot actually controls the amount of lift generated by pulling a lever (the collective pitch control) which alters the angle of the blades as opposed to the rpm of an engine like a car. Now imagine if the helicopter's roters spin at 300rpm. This means that each full rotation of the rotor will take 0.2 seconds. There's 5 rotors, so there will be a rotor blade pointing straight forwards every 0.04 seconds.

A video camera may record at (say) 25 frames per second, which is 0.04s between each frame.

See where this is going? Every 0.04 seconds the camera records a frame and all it sees is 5 rotor blades in the same positions as when it last took a frame. Since neither the camera speed or rotor speed is changing, it just looks like the rotors aren't turning at all... If you were to paint one rotor a different colour and view the video in slow motion, you would see each rotor in turn appearing to change colour.

Who's a clever boy then 8)

I did think it was something to do with shutter speed if you like, a bit like when you see wheels going 'backwards' on TV.

.......and FPS is 'frames per second' now I know what bluey meant.

Well done for such a consise reply, for a Friday :P

Me thinks you have some kind of electro/mechanico interesto?

You... Bastard... :P

A month. I'll have it fixed in a month, and you can hold me to it, unless of course it's the elements screwed in which case it won't be fixed while I'm still in this job cos I can't do upholstery. Hmm wonder what my mom's up to ;) But I'll definitely have an answer in a month. The problem with the seats isn't lack of understanding, it's lack of access. I'm pretty much going to have to take the seats out to sort this unless I can find a decent mirror and lighting.

Aye, I probably will tbh. I reckon I'll probably discover one of the heating pads is dead, in which case hopefully I'll just be able to do a little hack and cut the broken one out of the circuit unless they're both dead.
