HELP! Anyone Good at Maths?

Post by ThePrisoner »

Jesus, my maths is terrible! Anyways can someone help me out?

I am assuming the worst, and I am trying to work out what degree classification i will probably end up with.

So my average grade at the moment is 54% which is ok I suppose by my standards. My final dissertation is about to be handed in and it is truly terrible, and I am expecting the lowest mark for it possible which is 40%. My final dissertation makes up 37.5% of my whole mark, so can anyone work out my final percentage?

If I get 40% for my dissertation, and this 40% makes up 37.5% of my total mark, and my current average is 54%, what will my final average be?

Cheers

Pris.

54% of 62.5 is 33.75 (62.5 being the remainder of 100 per cent taking away 37.5)
40% of 37.5 is 15%

so 33.75 + 15 =

48.75%

Which in degree terms is a third class IIRC.

So Neil, here's another one for you;

If with the figures given above, say I got 50% as my total overall mark for my degree (that would get me 2:2 classification) what would my final essay need to be to push everything up?

To get your Desmond (Tutu) you will need to get 43 1/3% in your dissertation.

So far you have 33.75% in the bag (see NeilDavies post above)

For 50% you need to get another 16.25%

16.25/37.5 * 100 = 43.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333

Or to put it another way improve your dissertation by 10% and you should have it :)

Best of luck
