Bzzzt the turbo strikes again. It's blocked by the air pipe between the intercooler and the throttle, the vacuum hose attached to that, some other pipe whose function I can't remember, and a pile more stuff... Underneath it's blocked by more pipes. In short it's a right pig to get at and worth the extra tenner to get someone else to do
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Blue406 - why do you recommend the Castrol GTX oil? I'm on about 107k in my 2.0 petrol - is Castrol the way forward from here do you think? (I've spotted it in Lidl for about £16! 8) )

I've also noticed my car doesn't appear to have an under tray - I can just look under the car and see the oil filter staring me in the face!

Well to put things into perspective, since changing the oil, the engine is so quiet, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was brand new if you walked past it while idling.

Castrol GTX Magnatec really does benefit your engine. And the one for High Mileage cars seems to sit well with the 2 liter engine.

As for the oil filter, you should be able to see it from above, easily. From below (ie on your back, underneath the car) it won't be, if your black tray is present.

Oh well... Non Turbo engine FTW then heh.

I'd recommend to you that the £30 to get the oil and filter changed is WELL worth it, particularly the high mileage you're doing.

Remember, my engine is a slightly less stressed version of yours, so has a bit more give n take (although not recommended I agree!)

Whats cheaper £30 every 6K or a new car?
