Why I'm all for the smoking ban

as a smoker i do agree with all that you say(besides the being shot bit!!!!) i dont believe that anyones actions should have a negative effect on others but i do feel that maybe theres been a little overkill wheres the need to ban smokers from hospital grounds all together?

In my opinion there are certain 3 places where smoking has absolutely no place to be. They are:

Schools (Nurseries and the like too)
Hospitals
Airports

Schools are an obvious no no. Hopsitals too for hygiene reasons.
I chose Airports as it is often one of the first impressions travellers get of a country... and if they're gagged at the doorways with smoke.. then perhaps thats not so good.
Besides, you can get a bigger concentration of children (an average per adult head count I mean) at Airports.

Add to that places where food is consumed (exemption for greasy spoons - it's part of the atmosphere), and public transport.

It's a difficult one really,

I'm all for the ban, I hate coming home smelling of smoke etc, and I like to think that I can take my family to a restraunt, or bowling or whatever knowing that there's one less thing to worry about.

What I'm against is the constant persecution of people that goes on in the UK, whether it's smokers or any other people who undertake any kind of "socially frowned upon" activity.

Smoking is the user's choice, if you choose to smoke that's fine by me as long as you don't pollute me with the shyte. I think you should pay extortionate taxes on your cigs, enough to pay for all the extra health care that smokers will one day need. The bit I can't cope with is the way smokers are treated as public enemy # 1 by an ever increasing band of brainless fukwits. "I don't smoke therefore I'm a superior being to you! " WFT? Idiots!

And what the hell is with ex-smokers? I know it's a laudible thing you've done by kicking the habit, but if one more person says "I've given up" to me, in the same tone as someone would say "I fought to defend this country in the war" or "I saved a child form a burning building", I swear to God I'll shove a pack of cigs up their nose one by one. Congratualations on your success, it's great, I'm happy for you. But heroes you are not!

It's pride. Apart from the obvious retort about not getting into it in the first place, would you not expect a heroin addict to be proud of kicking their habit? Well smoking's apparently a lot more addictive. The amount that FAIL to quit is ludicrous. I'm really happy for ex-smokers and quite in awe of them - giving up is something I doubt I could do...

You should see how temperamental I can get if I'm denied a nicotine fix, especially when I've had a drink... That's what's going to make nights out fun when the ban kicks in. Thankfully I'll be saving money with my mates by buying canned beer and drinking it around someone's house where we can smoke in the warm.

Quite a few people are planning on doing this. My local's landlord is pretty much *begging* the council to let him buy a patch of neighbouring land (or something like that) so he can accommodate smokers, because with about 70% of his customers being smokers (his words), he's seriously worried about ending up out of business.

i know the landlord in my local is somewhat concerned about the ban as many of his regulars, i just wanted to get the point across that we are not the scum of the earth and i dont smoke with the intention of causing grief or illness to others im very wary about were i smoke id never expect to smoke in some one elses car or home the issue about taxes is also a sore point as we already pay the highest rate of tax on tobacco in europe and if everyone stopped tommorow the revenue lost would be masive and if your talking about the extra tax for smokers health care then you must put huge taxes on mcdonalds and the like for the ever increasing obesity issue, and what about people who drink more than the reccomended allowance should they be targeted?? personally i wished id never started but dont think i would or could stop as ive got zero will power IM A SMOKER NOT A CRIMINAL

Yes, yes and fekking yes! what a great idea, a tax threshold:D, more than 40 fags, 2 junk food meals or 20 units of alcohol a week and [s]the tax [/s] your entire tax bill doubles , wouldn't it be great if that was workable? If you wanna be a heavy drinking, chain smoking fat bastard you'd better get a better job! Unfortunately most of the people I know who fall into that category think they deserve to be handed beer, fags, maccy Ds and sky television on a silver platter hand delivered to their chavtastic fully modernised council house by a selection of horny naked supermodels riding in a unicorn drawn carriage made of gold and diamonds. The problem with britain is that they pretty much get that.

i think we all feel pretty much the same on that one i work to fund my habit!! but i know plenty of people who just go to the post office for their beer and fag tokens mind you they probably get it home delivered now im about the only f****r that works in our street and ive got the oldest car it could be worse one of my workmates has a son thats a premiership footballer poor b*****ds only on 40k a WEEK
