Happened to mine as well. Just had the motor disconnected as the new part and the labour involved with fixing it was not worth my time and money.
Peugeot should of done a recall on it, such a common problem and imagine what would happen if the motor burnt out or short circuited for being on too long!
Just a whirring and clicking noise from behind the dash. It sounds like there is an electric motor trying to grab onto somthing, its a stripped gear inside the box.
There is a fix for it using the gears out of a remote controlled car, that was a 405 Mi16 though and I'm not sure if the recirc motor is the same between the 405 and the 406?
Just disconnect it and have it set to fresh, its pretty allright I suppose only unless if you drive through alot of tunnels or sit in alot of heavy traffic?
I have a manual slider in mine which I guess doesnt operate a motor , my problem is that the slider is verystiff to move, and I am sure that although slider is in the outside air setting, it is partially in recirc mode! ie, flaps sticking to halfmast which results in a battle to clear the inside of the screen when loaded up with wet people!!!
Is the manual slider rigged to the flaps with rods or wires? would like to know whats behind the dash before i rip the thing to bits
