Even wondered what you can get nicked for whilst driving? -> CPS - charging practice for careless driving

mjb & turbolag:- good call on stopping to light up.

Lighting up whilst driving could cost you £2,500 and up to 9 points - so could tuning your radio.

£2500 and 9 points?!! yet the scumbag who mugs the old lady for a fiver leaving her in hospital gets a slapped wrist and 50 hours community service GO FIGURE!!

a few years ago i was taken out by a joyrider in a stolen car i was just told to claim off my own insurance and forget about it because of the difficulty in finding him after he did a bunk, and even if they got him hed just get community service

She was actually pulled over for being demonstrably not in control of her vehicle, which in this case was due to her determination to unwrap and consume the choccie bar. I've had one in who was all over the place, and she got put on - she was enjoying a nice Mr Whippy at the time (an ice cream, not a dump!).

Naturally though, the tabloids get about as far as the words 'police', 'chocolate' and 'nazi Germany' before rushing off to write their largely eroneous accounts.

I just wish they'd slap a copper outside where I work for a day. They'd easily catch over 100 without seatbelts and a couple of hundred more driving with one hand because they're holding a mobile to their head. Then there's the hundreds that stop on box junctions and ignore traffic lights... This is right in a busy area of Manchester city centre with masses of pedestrians around too.

I love smoking whilst driving, actually I love smoking full stop

I don't smoke indoors around non-smokers (apart from my house and car if they don't like it they know where the door is.)
As for smoking being distracting, it's already covered under the "Due care and attention law" if you crash because you are trying to light a fag you will get done for due care.
If you try lighting a fag whilst on a sharp bend or slowing traffic and crash then you are an idiot!

If you find smoking whilst driving distracting then you shouldn't have a driving license.

And as for dropping fag butts on the road, really...Clutching at straws, so I may drop a butt in the road every 50 miles or so but as we drive RHD cars it's generally near the white line.
Never known anyone to say "ohhh... Look at that fagbutt by the white line, that's disgusting!" whilst driving along.

As for throwing lit butts out of the window at trailing cars, that's just reserved for tailgaters

Anyone else behind me and I put my arm out of the window and drop it down so it hits the road before the car behind.
If my butt hits your bonnet then it's simple.... You are driving too close.
If you can't avoid a fagbutt then what are you going to do if the person brakes?

I respectfully observe common curtsey for people who don't want to smoke as long as they do the same for me in my own car or home.

Of course if someone wants to buy my car and pay for the upkeep then I'll do anything they say when I'm in it

I used to smoke and drive and enjoyed it very much.

The only problem I ever had was throwing the butt out the window and it blew back in the rear window and burnt the seat (Ford Onion)

otherwise there was no danger to smoke-driving. Mostly you would light up when you stop at lights or whatever.

Nowadays the BIGGEST danger to me is one of temporary letching at females (TLAF) I've had some really scary near-rear enders whilst observing Breasts and/or legs (but mostly breasts).

Can't disagree with you on that mate!

Actually, being a smoker and not being able to smoke makes me compulsive, aggressive, irritable and rash and then extreme lethargy and slurred speech/Thinking nearly in a comatose state (For me anyway.)

Not a good mix with driving a car - Maybe it'd be safer if I smoke when I drive

Getting back on topic!

I just ordered me one of these non smoking kits from the local dealer. £20.23 inc Vat. Not bad me thoughts.
They call it a "Center console storage unit" if you want to ask at your local dealer. Tell them to look in the Accessories book for the 406.

They order it from a central warehouse. Mine will be waiting for me anytime after 9am tomorrow

Stand by for a new mod thread with pics

Will be interesting to see if I can find a way to use the Ashtray illumination to light up the inside of this unit.

I only have the window open about an inch (on the leading edge) which is enough for me to flick ash out of without it coming back in. Well, on the move I don't even flick it, the wind works better... Dropping the butt I do by sticking it out the window with 2 fingers curved round so it's past the opening thus safe

I very rarely smoke when I'm doing over 30ish though - the wind from the open window pisses me off, so it only happens when what I think's going to be be a huge traffic jam suddenly disappears without a trace (as happens fairly regularly on the M6 :/ )

Yeah regular use of a vacuum is the only thing I can think of.

Or try and flick it before the ash gets too long so it's less likley to fall off before it reaches the window.
Still can't help the car looking like Pompeii after a long journey though
