Non smoking Kit - INSTALLATION

Post by Blue406 »

Right, here it is folks.

The console comes in two bits. The main section with the little sprung loaded door, and a small section that sits where the ashtray would go, doubling the storage capacity in one move.

Firstly, the destructions on the box tongue seem simple enough:

So I followed them. Mental note to self: Hoover inside center console thoroughly!
Simply remove the ashtray and then yank out the flat unit it sits in. The pull forward on the base of the gear lever gater and pull upward

Place the lower section into the hole once occupied by your ashtray, there's a handy little holder for the ashtray illumination.. insert it thusly:

Put the main part of the new console into position, pushing it home underneath the radio and air-con stack. (It will seem a little loose at this stage, fear not!)

Reposition the Gear lever gater base, locating the rear end first, then press down on the front.. it'll give a light click.

And you're done!

HI,

Good job blue, that looks like a massive improvment. IS the inside as big as it looks? (difficult to tell from a picture)

also does the gater/gator fit back correctly?

Thansk,

Yup, the gator fits back perfectly. No issues.
Only warning I was given is that this will not fit Automatics.

OK as for the size, for scale I put my spare key inside. Hope this helps:

Hi,

I am getting one, when i get the car. always hated the wood effect (bit too old man/sunday driver). When the car goes to get the door sorted out and touched up. i am getting the paint man to spray all the wooden strips the same colour as my car

Also that is a great place to store the old mobile phone, and I may route a charging cable underneath and in.

By the way - you forgot to take a 'Before' picture showing the old ash tray.

Can you take it all out again and do it properly for us?

I put a 4 way lighter socket splitter thingy in mine last night, but forgot to take photos  .

Basically took out the ashtray and the gear gaiter as above, then whipped the plug off the back of the fag lighter through the gap. Tested to find live and earth. Then took my new eblag special 4 way splitted and lopped the plug off it, then fed the wire under the radio and back to the lighter, inside the centre console. Cut the wires going to the lighter and joined the spliter wires in using connector blocks (I would have liked to have done a better job of this bit, but space is very limited  ). Then put it all back together, and finally velcrod the splitter up underneath the radio, the velco's a bit crap, might have to employ some self tappers in this role. So now I not only have lots of space to plug in all my "toys" , but I also don't have anything plugged into the original lighter socket with unsightly wires running everywhere 8).
