Hi,

14 is the lowest setting, and yes it should get ice cool. after about 5-10mins. it may need re-gassing

Both :cheesy: The compressor's on a clutch mechanism driven from the alternator belt, so there's no life in the aircon stuff unless it's on AND the engine's running

Although there is a short noise made when you try to switch the aircon on without the engine running (You can only hear it with most of the dashboard removed though). I wonder if that's a solenoid or something working the clutch?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

if you have a leak it will almost certainly be the condenser

does that in effect write the condensor off then cos id imagine theyd be a fortune and the amount i use the a/c i wouldnt bother,do they not need regassing at intervals anyway?

you should only regass if the A/C doesnt work and there is no system pressure
condenser is about £200, but you could fit it yourself saving on the labour

Just having the same prob myself.. condensor was shot ... mine cost me £103 with the vat
seen em somewhere on the net for about 80/90plus postage... not a long job if you buy
one and pay someone to fit it.... my prob now is the pipes they are shot too and leaking
and local stealers got none they are on back order  but you will still need it re gassed...
your mate should be able to test it and tell you if anything is leaking  :D
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
