Does anyone with the 210bhp v6 find that the engine is dogshit below 3000? I'm assuming it's something to do with the vvti, being a bit like the "vtec kick" at 3000? Anyone else experiance this?
Howdy. Yep mines the same, there is a definate kick of power at 3 grand. A mate of mine used to have a Civic Type R and it feels silmilar to that but not as mad.
I like to drop down a cog so shes above 3k when overtaking, it maks it so easy to take lines of cars
the 98 v6 sounds like its been modified even though its completely standard. put your foot down in 2nd in the wet and you'd end up on the limiter in seconds, do that in the mk2 v6 with the TC off and you just accelerate, it's bollocks really. never mind eh, more power at the top end!
Probably been done for economy.
Most twin (or quad cam) cam petrol cars do the same.
Off cam lack of power but doesn't use much fuel but when it comes on cam (generally 2k or so below the redline) they go a bit more bonkers.
The theory is if you are keeping the revs down you are just cruising and probably don't want much power but rev the car on cam and the power is there.
The GTi-6 used to go a bit bonkers at 5k, so did the Saxo VTS.
Yeah the new one is a lot better on petrol than the old one, for example, I did the same journey in both recently, the old one used nearly 3/4 of a tank and the new one used half. old one had done 140k though so probably uses a bit more fuel and also the fuel gauge isn't as accurate in the old one
this is just typical of VVT, its a great idea but throws driveability out the window for a few MPG and a few more ponys at the top of the revs
my sisters bmw 325ti has double vanos, basically dual VVT on the inlet and exhaust cams, the kick you get in that is amazing, it pulls like a train from 1000rpm to 3000rpm but if you back off then on the throttle the kick feels like a turbo bigger than the car itself, which is quite annoying, but the noise is awesome

My estate cracks me up - some loser in a s-series Beemer or some kev in a boy-racer car side by side with me I love burning them off from standing. Shock on their faces, especially as there's no tell-tale badge saying V6 on the back, only by the front wheels.
I have a Powerflow Catback on my Coupe,combined with the K&N panel filter it has freed up the revs a bit and fuel economy has improved,on a trip last Sunday to Newport I averaged 35 MPG according to the trip computer.

35mpg How the hell did you get that, highest ive ever seen on mine is 27mpg and that was serious granny/sunday driver stylee driving
Stuck to the speed limits except on the motorways where I was cruising at 80,I was suprised at the figures,when I filled up I worked it out on a calculator and it worked out at 34.73 MPG,so the trip computer in my Coupe is fairly accurate too.
