And what is the purpose of the dead lock then

Stops the inside doorhandles from working so you can't put a brick through a 406 window to open the door - you want to nick a 406 you're climbing in through smashed glass (in theory)
If you happen to have an impact driver handy, like some scrote who broke into my beloved D9 had, then it's easy peasy. I won't give any more details in case some low-life reads this post; however, suffice to say that the deadlocks can be by-passed in the time that it takes to throw a brick through the window. Note I said the inside doorhandles. Deadlocking doesn't affect operation of the external lock - it stops you getting out not in
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Aussie 406 doesn't have the keypad though even though it says "Peugeot CODE Protection" on the window.... :?

mjb - I agree, deadlocking prevents the door being opened from the inside; however, I (mistakenly) thought that the door could not be opened from the outside without a key or remote when deadlocked. Without saying too much about how the scrote did it, the outside doorhandle and barrel lock were not touched in the attack.

Probably referring to the radio code...
