Loosing a bit of coolant - normal?? I doubt it!

Post by Maranman »

:frown: my motor has now done well more than 200k and still pulls well (can't be bothered to check the actual mileage and too senile/drunk to remember...) Since I have had it, it has used a small amount of coolant - about a pint every 1000 miles.
I checked for leaks and drips as you would and can't see any trace of loss.
My immediate concern is that this is the start of a failing head gasget :?:

Have any of you experts had a similar problem? I can't believe its normal!

Cheers
Graeme

I was losing coolant for around 10,000 miles at a worsening rate before it actually got bad enough I realised what the problem was - leaky radiator. If your car's got an undertray under the engine bay, clean it and watch it for new liquid.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

£110 for a new one incl main dealer fitting!

Been sweet ever since

Can't say the same for the oil mind - needs a top up ever 3k miles or so!
