Reliability study

Post by Foghorn Leghorn »

Ok, after a successful hijacking of Sevy35's thread (sorry :( ) I thought it might be interesting to hear everyones tales of joy/woe regarding their trusty steads. I for one get alot of stick for driving a garlic muncher, even though its one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. So lets hear your stories...

Model: D9 estate 110 GTX HDi Family
Miles to date: 110k 20k covered by me

Common problems encountered:
A/C condenser £300
Hand brake switch £2
Radiator fan resistor £10
Bottom pulley £90 I think

Current issues:
handbrake adjustment!

Other than mentioned above the car is spot on, very smooth. Never misses a beat, still on my original clutch and DMF too, with no sign of it giving up.

Chances are that will be the anti roll bar drop link, very easy fix and cheap too.

Current issues:
A/C cdoesn't work - probably condensor and may be pump
something wrong on rear near side(*)
handbrake isn't so good.
variable performance issues (maybe just imagining this, or maybe turbo pipes are split)

Model: '99 HDi 90 LX saloon
Miles: 110K (50K mine)

The only non-consumables have been:
a/c condenser - £315
handbrake switch - £5
gearbox rubber mounting bush - £15
bottom pulley and waterpump changed with cambelt at 60k just before I bought it.

I suppose I should start thinking about changing the belts, tensioners/idlers and water pump.

Best car I've ever owned, the most reliable, the cheapest to own and the most comfortable. It uses no oil and still does nearly 55mpg on a long run. It's even on the original battery!

I looked to change it last year as I wanted more grunt to tow the caravan, but saw nothing I liked, so I had a remap and that provided more grunt than something that grunts very loudly! Now it looks as if we're going to be together for a good many years to come (I hope).

Oh bugger, knew I forgot something. Just changed the rear silencer box as it had started chuffing just before the MOT.

HI,

Model: D9 HDi (110) GLX on a 51 plate silver
Miles: 76K

Fixed

None

Known problems

Clutch - £116, Driveshaft - £90 plus £150 labour
unknown whining noise
Really need to have the cam belt/water pump changed
Comm 2000 unit - £80 Inc fitting
and probably loads more :(

Before some bitch wrote my mint condition 406 off it had the following

Model: D9 HDi (110) LX Jade green
Miles: 65K

Problems Fixed: -
Cam belt and water pump done £250 (or something like)
Rear springs - £90
EGR Valve - £90
Fault code read and replacement vac/vac pipe work £100 as perfomance was crap

Nothing ran like a dream

So basically my new / replacement car is a shed and pissing me off at the moment. on the plus side if i ever get a job i will be saving up and getting a coupe asap (petrol) and selling the shed to some poor bastard (hope he has deep pockets).

Bitching begins:

The old car had a towing bracket but the clutch was fine the new one has never seen a towing bracket but the clutch is fooked and so is the largest driveshaft. what the hell was the last driver doing with it? driving it into kerbs at 90mph, most have been a women driver.

bitching over

Lol :cheesy:

Mine was previously owned by a woman driver, was very surprised by the lack of dents and that the clutch has survived. Sadly the nearside front alloy hadn't. Looked like it had been attacked with an angle grinder and chisel

They look lush now though as I stripped, filled and resprayed them all.

Be careful, german cars can be just as unreliable and cost more for parts...
