I agree, engine remap is the only way to improve the performance available to all 406 owners. The only difference between a 90 and 110 is that the 110 has a larger (slower spin up) turbo and a intercooler.

The boost control has been electronic since late phase1 in the 1.9td and always in the HDi

the 1.9 td never had electronic boost control, it was mapped into the ecu based on load, rpm and injection angle
not even the HDi 90 has it, the air mass meter is there just to check the EGR works

Yeah you're right James, I should of explained that the turbo feeds the ECU the info, which in turn alters map parameters. As I understand it, you can't easily tune the late 1.9's cos no one does an after market map - kinda strange really cos this was a popular engine.

the ecu on a 1.9 is only there to control the injection timing, nothing else, so injection duration and volume is still controlled by the pump, so essential you can fiddle with the pump to get more power, hence why no one does a remap for it

I don't know to be honest James. All I can recall in that 'The Diesel Doctor' took one look at the engine in my 406 1.9TD and said he can't tune it (unlike the fully mechanical pumps, without the ecu) and he's tuned more Pugs than I've had hot dinners. So in effect he said if I had an older system (fully mechanical) or a newer system (HDi fully electronic) then he could of tuned it, but not the hybrid semi-electronic system that I had (other than a bolt on crappy tune up box). Either way, I sold the car and bought the HDi, had perfomance torque remap the ecu and I'm exceptionally happy with the result, and can whole heartedly recommend a remap to everyone.
