sorry not familiar wiv the pug engine

Post by plee1974 »

hi guys have had a d8 99 1.8 16v pug for a little under 9 months now (had to lose the golf gti due to another addition to the family) and had no problems at all even its mot all i needed was the o/s headlight replaced due to alignment problem and the adjuster being faulty but even that only cost me 20 squid at the scrappies and a few cuts and scrapes.
recently however the idle is rather crappy with it revving up to 1500 - 2000 rpm instead of it sitting flat on 950 - 1000 .
i`ve been searching the other posts re.idle problems and keep seeing suggestions to clean the stepper motor.
could sum1 please point me in the right direction of where to locate the stepper motor

with the golf used to clean the throttle body i am assuming that its a similar thing here and just the terminology thats different

thanks guys

p.s pictorials are always appreciated

pps sorry also gonna give the old girl a service what size and kinda sump key do i need ????

First job would be to do a full service, air, fuel and oil filters, plugs etc Check leads are in good nick. Then go from there.

What i can remember from other peoples posts is that they clean the stepper motor with carb cleaner or WD40
