Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Towbar Wiring.....HELP PLEASE!!

Post by Mike84 »

Hi,

I have fitted a towbar to my car over the weekend and have come to do the wiring and got stuck! I thought that the trusty Haynes manual would help but no, just confused me even more.

Can anyone tell me which wires in the car I need to connect the seven core upto.

Also another thing, Now I have fitted the towbar the heat shield for the back box wont go back on! Its even more difficult as 2 of the 4 bolts sheared off when trying to remove it!

Thanks

Mike

Hiya mate, my pug doesn't have a towbar, but I recently fitted one to my jeep and simple used a tester to find the appropriate wires.

Plenty of how-to guides and diagrams on 'tinternet. I assume since you're only asking for one socket you're after the lights for any trailer board, caravan etc, which is a 12N. (If you need the auxiliary power for a caravan, that's a 12S. )

Any of these any use to you?

Did the kit not come with wiring instructions???

So take the cover off the back of the rear light clusters and have a look which coloured wires go to which bulbs....

as you have a BSi, there is know flasher unit for the indicators as the BSi triggers them, you need to get a flasher unit and a lot of rewiring

Thanks,

I have sorted them out now, after a bit of trial and error.

The indicators work fine as well and I have just wired straight into the existing circuit. All I need is a buzzer relay as the one that came with my wiring kit didnt work! Need to take it back.

At the moment it looks a mess on the back with the standard towbar on, but I am waiting for the detachable kit to come in stock at the shop.
