OK, this is a bit pointless now in 2007 but I was thinking recently about why the Exec was so expensive when new.
If I look at my own car:
1999 HDi exec Cost new = £21,200.00
Then, a 1999 HDi LX new = £17,250.00
So the exec was £3,950.00 more, lets say, £4,000.00.
So what do you get for your £4K over the LX?
Heated Leathers
Auto-Dim rear view mirror
Folding Wing Mirrors
JBL Hi Fi
Trip Computer?
Rear Blind and storage box (which I still have no idea what to put in there)
I may have missed something, but is that lot really worth £4K ?
Cars in my care:
2021 Kia Spottage 1.6 Pez Turbo Dual Clutch Gearbox Trickery
2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work
Don't forget:
(- The seat are leather, heated, electric with memory)
- Rain sensitive wipers
- Headlight washers
- Front Fog lights (depending on what year the LX was)
- Probably some other stuff (i really can't remember what stuff my car has theres so much of it)
I think 4k isn't too bad, I bet it would be alot more than that to buy the individual extras, JBL system on its own was probably 500 to 1K.
Also don't forget that you will get some of that money back when you sell (also makes selling a lot easier). I think my Exec is probably worth £500 (might be dreaming thou) more than a LX of same age, miles, condition.

Bloody D9s! I haven't got any of those other than the (broken) heated seats and the trip computer I had to botch in myself My headlamp washer jets aren't even plumbed in for some reason! (don't think there's even a pump for them)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
