glowplugs

Post by pondweed »

As these are relatively cheap, are these worth changing as a service item after 130,000 miles? i.e. do they gradually lose efficiency, or do they just either "work" or "not"!

mines on 155K now, I've never changed them on the HDi. ECU is reporting glow plug circuit fault on mine (has for a long time) and it still has always started first time every time even at sub zero temps.

I wouldn't bother myself unless its giving any indication of struggling to start (which is unlikely).

Be better spending the money on extra oil change or new filter or something else (beer?)

My ECU has reported glow plugs before but no problems with starting. The 'glow plug' circuit code can cover other things though :frown:

The common rail system injects an extremely fine mist of (already heated because of pressure) fuel and the engine will fire easily anyway. The Glow Plugs on a HDi will only really be of any use if you went to the North Pole, left the car there for a week whilst you went on holiday and then went back to start it up 8)

thats alright then.
Why would I want to go to the North Pole to leave my car anyway? Or is it perhaps cheaper than going to Stansted, I guess?
