Its the end of the road for my trusty N361YLS
For my old Saloon.
Heres what the MOT tester said to my friend who owns her now:
Left Headlight Loose, Right headlight unaligned, Near side Front track rod / bearins strut (was an Advisory 2006) is now a failure, Nearside suspension rod fail, Offside Roll bar linkage fail, Front brakes below minimum, Handbrake non-existant (His words) Parking brakes fail.
Looks like that dirt track I drove up umpteen times for my Airsoft hobby has taken its toll on the poor gal.
Still, with 196K on her ODO, she had a good innings.
My friend is yet to decide her fate. He's wating for a quote on how much it will be to put right, but I don't think its going to be worth it.
Its a real shame as the engines still sweet

Its not a matter of convincing him.
He's just as eager to keep the 6 going as you or I.
The sticking point is the means. We know of no one with enough mechanical know how and we have no where to conduct the repairs even if we did know someone.
Its not 100% for the chop yet. I will fight for this 6's life. She's served me well and deserves that at least.
Sniff.... during better times... sniff:
In Chronological order:
My first photo of her the day after I bought her in July of 2002:

My first artsy shot 6 months later

Then I blinged her with some chrome trim and a big pug lion badge

Then I finished the chrome triming on the doors, gave her alloys and a leather steering wheel

Next was body colour coded D9 style wing mirrors

Final round of mods were GLX door cards, a non smoking kit and wind deflectors, one of which you see here:

Well its official.
My friend has thrown in the towel.
He'd rather spend the £300 for repairs and tax on a new front door and odd n sodds for his house.
Theres no point trying to convince him otherwise. The 406 was only a weekend run around, so its not that great a loss for him.
So.. now I'm looking to gauge interest in the spare parts dept.

I have passed on your message to my mate and he is registered here, so I've asked him to come on here and discuss it.
What I can tell you is the specs:
2.0 litre Non turbo Petrol XU10 engine. 195K miles on the clock. Recent oil and filter change (2000 miles ago). No mods to the engine what-so-ever. It is factory standard, hence its longevity.
The clutch slips occasionaly when you boot it. But she'll cruise at 110mph no problem. I did this in Germany for hours on end in June.
She has GTX alloys from a 2001 D9 406. Bought from a Pug406gtx, a member here. I bought his D9 leather steering wheel too, which is fitted to this car.
D9 Leather Gear knob
D9 Style wingmirrors, color coded carcass and blue tinted glass. Very nice, set the car off nicely. Meant to be electric, but the leads from them are different to those in the door. Full adjustable at fingerpoint though ;)
You know about the suspension and brake issues. So thats cool.
Spare tyre is on a steel rim, with good tread.
The exterior is in what I'd call typical condition for have spent close to 5 years parked on a residential street and having 195K on the clock. Its not spotless, but the colour hides it well once waxed. Accident damage to the front I hit a Pug 106 at about 7 miles an hour in 2002. I have since replaced the bonnet and manage to iron out most of the damage myself.
Brand new windscreen fitted at the end of June. Thet car has done about 130 miles since.. so its like just fitted!
Unfortunately the windscreen fitter bent the hinges on the bonnet. It closes and is secure but the hinges and bonnet would be best replaced.
Interior is clean as a whistle. With D8 Executive door cards with the wood trim.
Other than the cars, steering wheel and gear knob, its pretty much a standard LX trimmed 1996 interior.
Velour seats are as good as spotless with no tears, burn marks or such.
Any questions?
