Worst junctions

Post by mjb »

I'll start the ball off rolling with this abomination from Edinburgh, discovered while looking around the giant poo to the south-west...

Try this one in Birmingham.

Special features - busy road, lots of HGVs and no traffic lights.

There's ones like that in Yankland (they're not hot on roundabouts), 5 lanes wide, wrong side of the road... "hold on, where the f**k am I going??!"

Not much of a fan of this one:

M4 Motorway (No not the one in Manchester) - i used to drive this on the way to work. The thing is that there is a offramp and its usually a busy intersection at peak times, the thing is that the traffic will bank up along the exit and then back onto the motorway. You get people driving along there at full pelt and not realizing that you have to come to a stop rather quickly! There has been a few bad rear enders there!

Just to make you all jealous :P :P :P

This one would have to be my favourite. It's the run up off the Cahill Expressway which you use to get out of the northern part of the CBD or if you want to use the harbour bridge after comming out of the Eastern Distributor! Drive through it every day on the way back from uni.

Tis good fun - 270 degrees of cornering. The 406 kinda leaves alot of cars behind through there - oh and you probably get one of the best views in the world once you come out the top of it!

Reminded me a bit of this, which is the road in and out of Dover fairy terminal from the A2. The road in is long, sweeping and not really where you'd want the brakes to fail on your artic. Note the "oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" run-off gravel bed.

Look closely at this, which is just round the corner from where I used to live. What's wrong with that? A seemingly inoccuous little junction - come down Burford Street and pull out straight onto the Dinant Link Road in your very own lane. But you'd be surprised at the amount of old farts I've followed down there who suddenly find it a good excuse to test out my ABS...

270 degrees of cornering.

I did this every day - note it's actually the same scale, just the radius is a lot bigger. The limit of grip is about 84 in the dry, 60-65 in the wet with plenty of room to oversteer a FWD estate without hitting anything. Be aware the corner gets sharper at its southern-most point... Not that I've "experimented" much on this bend :D

It's funny to see the shiny BMWs and Mercs twitching and backing off as they try to keep up with a 406 banger :)
