Had the clutch and dmf replaced on my 406 hdi have to say both are uprated now and clutch is a delight compared to before if it was your dmf it would be slipping. Also i noticed i no longer get any vibration at speed of around 80mph which i had before.

Mines fine and dandy, quite slick really, yes its really high but i'm used to it now.

Only problem is sometimes it wont engage reverse, i have to release the clutch and then press it down again before she slots in :frown:

Thanks for all the words of support guys, I am starting to get the feel of it now, and the paranoia of a possible new clutch is starting to fade

I keep light pressure on the gearstick towards reverse, then bring the clutch up to just before biting point, at which point 9 times out of 10 the gearstick will slot in without much effort

Yes, me too. Although, sometimes I do get that horrible grinding noise if I am not careful. An alternative is to put it into first and then reverse.

And yes, my biting point is very high as well. When I bought the car 4 years ago, I took it to my local Pug specialist for a clutch replacement, but he said all 406's are like that. It's been fine. Although, I am probably looking at a clutch change soon (on 132k miles now with original). Thank fk, I don't have that horrid DMF......

No DMF on any of the D8's. The 2.1TD's and the V6's have hydraulic clutches

My 2,1 and the 2,0 HDi have hydraulic clutches (almost the same gearbox too AFAIK), I have no problems engaging reverse, unless I get too keen and try shoving it in before the layshaft stops spinning - crunchy!

I did read 406's had horrible gearchanges, I seem to have lucked out on that one! :cheesy:

Do yours balk or crunch?

All this talk about my d9 clutch, and then the clutch cable goes and snaps on my d8 (taxi) at 2230 on the busiest Saturday night in ages! If bad luck was horse muck, I'd need a wheelbarrow!

The 2.0 turbo (at least the exec version) also has a hydraulic clutch
