I want to try tuning up my 110 HDi engine and have come across a few products offering higher BHP / Torque / MPG... has anyone tried any of these and did they deliver on their promises?
yes they work but put a huge strain on the already stressed LP and HP pumps, a remap is a far safer bet and you will get mucho better power for you pound

Thats what i did. mine is a 110 hdi which is superchipped plus uprated clutch and flywheel its amazing 0 to 60 around 8to9 secs Turbo all the way to 120mph on private roads of course Very little turbo lag just loads of smooth torque.
Mine was done by superchips. Try the superchips website for a dealer near to where you live. Mine has been re mapped now for 3 and a half years. Only problem was the sh*t dmf which now i have an uprated solid flywheel now and a stage 1 organic clutch I think i paid £516 fo the chip all in. I know they are the best in my opinion due the amount of research and development they do and there reputation of i think 30 years plus. But they do give you a warranty and cover upto £10,000. if your car should break due the remap.

what actually IS the difference between what both products do?
my tuning box is digital and I understand it increases the pulse width of the fuel... so I can see it could put strain on the pumps, but what does a remap actually do?
a tuning box confuses the engine ecu and rail pressure sensor into raising the rail pressure and hence running rich, but to increase the rail pressure the pump(s) have to work twice as hard to keep up, and they wear far quicker, a remap adjusts the preset parameters and fuel, smoke and where apropriate the boost map, allowing the engine to produce more power efficiently, have a search as i did an explanation before

I had my 2.1TD remapped by Dr Derv in Derby. It took him half a day to do it but well worth it. He also found there was a problem with the needle lift sensor, which after replacement made the car fly. I can't compete with any VAG TD's on the roads today, but it's more than enough for my daily 80 mile commute to work. Overtaking is effortless, especially in 3rd and 4th gears from around 1800rpm mark.

I dont think I'm going to bother strapping the tuning box onto the HDi 90 now - it actually feels just right and has plenty of power - feels more powerful than its stated, anyway. (And I dont think the brakes with their lack of decent adjustment on the drums can take any more....!) The reason the remap vs tuning box has been different on the 75 and ZT diesels has been that the MAF sensors have been so poor that lots of Roverrons boxes have a MAF signal booster to helf the signal of the bosch mafs when it gets degraded (quite often...) Apparently the Remap agents dont like doing 75/ZTs because they often cant get a good result because of the limitations of the MAF... which is too expensive just to go changing all the time, presumably!
