Well.. it was the thermostat in the end..
I’ve been doing so much digging that I’ve found this out..
The engine was being over cooled. i.e. the thermostat opened at the 1st hint of heat and the engine never reached running temp. the engine management system gives the systems about 30mins to reach temp and if it doesn’t it throws a fit and says stop “ engine temp too hot “ i.e. it can’t trust the sensor so it stops using it and only uses the one on the head.
I changed the thermo start, only £11 from the main stealers easy except for the second bolt on it. much cursing and blood for that one. One good tip I got was to cut the bottom off the anti freeze bottle and use it as a header tank. i.e. ram it into the expansion tank and over fill it then it bleeds easier..
Now she runs little dream... well.. need to sort the lumpy idle but I think it just needs cleaning.
temp too high / STOP light -new relays, resis, still jippy
