Speeding Ticket?

Post by TehAgent »

Just had a letter from cambridgeshire constabulary saying that my last car was caught speeding in peterborough, doing 52 in a temporary 40mph zone on the 18th of October.

Thing is i sold the car on the 17th, is this going to look too "convenient" if they decide to drag me to court?

And has anyone seen a speed camera photo? how clear is the driver as it can prove that i wasn't the driver if its a good one.

Always ask for the photo and tell them that you sold the car the day before.

We've got quite a rogues gallery at work of our vans and you can see who's driving in most of them  (the mobile vans are the clearest for faces) even rear end shots (oo-er) can catch the driver in the wing mirror - we've got one of those and it's clear.

You should have given him the new keeper supplement and kept back (for you to post) the upper part of the log book dated with the new keeper? or did you give him the document for him to send off?

If you have got a signed document showing the date of sale/transfer then the other guy will be persued for the fine and given the chance to defend himself.

i gave the V5 over, but not the rest, don't trust anyone to send it off no matter how smartly dressed they are, with recent postal strikes and the Post office now starting to clear the back log, I'm thinking the DVLA haven't updated the car details just yet, though they definitely wouldn't of been updated when the offence took place.

Filled out the speeding ticket form today and its going in the post. ill fight my corner as i have witnesses to say where i was at the time of the offence.

Good thing is, i look completely different to the person i sold the car to, that's why i asked if they show up clearly.

Depends whether the camera was front facing or rear facing, if it's front facing and there's nothing between the camera and car then they tend to be crystal clear, my mum got caught by a front facing camera and a rear facing. Rear facing is the same quality but obviously because it's behind you it only gets the back of your head but as Welton said, you may be able to see by the reflection of the rear view mirror.

Ring them and ask for the picture, I rang twice and they didnt send it so I had to write a letter using a dead formal tone saying;

"After numerous requests via telephone for photographic evidence relating to a speeding offence (reference: XXXXX), I have still not received proof. I am now formally writing to request yet again... blah blah blah"... it worked. 4 days later, it was in my hand.

Good luck.

Well, there's no point asking for a speeding ticket photo, of someone else driving, i know i sold the car. i have witnesses to that effect at the time it happened.

So me asking for proof, sounds like it was me and I'm trying to worm my way out of it.

Still if it goes to court because they don't believe me, they would have to hand it over.

May be if it ends up at court, and i prove it, they can give me some compensation for having to take the time off work, to attend a hearing that has nothing to do with me.

Gotta love the law, guilty until proven innocent now, not the other way around.

Completely true... but at least you will have a copy of the photo in your hand just in case the cops try and stitch you up? You can say you've seen the picture and you know it wasnt you. No offence to the police.

bugger, i sent it off the day it got sold, didn't want to be apart of that bag o crap any much longer.

Brought it for £250 and all it did was go wrong, it was a nice car to start with. nice XUD engine.

Infact, the only thing on the car that was any good, was the engine. it was everything around it that buggered up.

Here's the list of what i fixed

- 2 new tires on the front (these don't really count as their things you know your getting into)
- replacement glow plugs.
- new fuel filter housing X 3 (yep that's 3, as two sprung a fuel leak, due to a blocked return hose from the fuel pump)
- front brake disks and pads.
- New throttle cable (that then snapped 7months later in the same place on the day i sold it)
- replacement battery.
- Acid damage to the rear seats (mate threw some ramps in my boot and knocked over a car battery that was waiting to go to the council for disposal)
- New passenger door (as the last person got scraped)
- New Passenger wing (see above)
- New Passenger wing mirror
- New back box as it fell off 3 weeks after getting the car
- Refurbished Fuel pump as the one on it sprung a leak (see Filter housing)
- New fuel leak of pipes
- New A/C compressor (last one seized, which in turn snapped the Auxiliary cable, leading to the car being undrivable, due to no hydraulic pump to power the suspension / power steering and Brakes
- Auxiliary tensioner also bent out of place, causing the new Auxiliary belt to slip and eat its self
- New Auxiliary belt X 2

There is more, but i would need my own forum for it, 10 guess why i sold it?

Problem i found was, i started fixing things that i had already fixed, like the Fuel filter. then the throttle cable. and it wasnt too pritty too look at either.

Anyway, i got my Pug now and im loving it. (and so is the misses)

send them a letter attached to the information stating you sold the car on xx/xx and the DVLA should be processing the change of ownership.

Give the DVLA a call to ensure they have updated the records, and if so, grab a reference number to write in the above letter.

As long as you have sent the COA form, theres nothing to worry about..

Mind you, I have a bad habbit of sending them in registered.. *just* to be sure..

N
Thanks,
Nick
