No chance! If I were to need another car, it'd either be another D8 exec turbo, or a D8 v6. None of that BSI failure malarkey around here thanks :D

But actually BSi failure is *extremely* rare, moreover it is the other electrical connections themselves which give rise to problems. Having said this I think the D9 'electreeks' are pretty solid and don't deserve the 'french thing'.

I've had a few engine lights on but I could sort this out for good if I just replaced the throttle pot (£50.00 ish).

I have been pondering recently about the D8/D9 thing and think the following:

Specific to the D8 only:
  • Dodgy immobiliser
    Cutting out/wonky idle on petrols
    Wonky windows upon battery change
    Dodgy speedo
    Funny heating/recirc motor flap
    Radiator corrosion
    Radiator fan failure
    Heated seat failure
    Stiff clutch
    Air locking on Diesels
Specific to the D9 only:
  • DMF on HDi's
    Bottom pulley on HDi's
    Air Con condenser
HDi fuel pump problem? I'm convinced it's had petrol through it sometime.
*awaits insults etc.

the wonky windows arent really a problem, its just they obviously need programming after loosing there memory, the radiators dont fail as often as D9 condensers, D9 have dodgy speedos too, D9 fans also fail too, if not more often, and again heated seat failure is just as common, and the air locking is usually down to bad maintainece

i had to send my mate with his truck as i couldnt get away from work, the car is in much better shape than described, having driven it for about an hour, only when i stopped did i notice the top hose was starting to bulge, whats the typical running temp of a HDi? mine seems to sit happy at 90 on the gauge, and i also put £10 in it as the gauge was low after starting up the fuel light came on??? :?
it drives fine for the mileage, suspension is quiet, clutch is buggerd, but not slipping, the anchors work really well, and it pulls amazingly, and the engine is a minter, no oil leaks anywhere and its whisper quiet and very smooth

temp should sit very slighty to the left of the 90 mark.

£10 will hardly make a dent on the fuel gauge. I always try to keep mine above "1/2" a tank to ensure there plenty of clean diesel to lub the low pressure pump.

Glad to its a good runner. If you do a few quick oil changes you'll probably find it takes it a while to dirty its oil. its over 2k before mine goes black and it still doesn't look like normal diesel oil when i change it at 5k.

The clutch and DMF are probably buggered. best test is to find dual carriage way get up to 55/60 in 5th and flaw the pedal. if clutch/dmf is gone you'll probably get some clutch slip.

well i had 7 in it tonight and it still pulled really well 8)
ive found that power is best between 1900rpm and 3000rpm, its totally unlike the 1.9 td 306 and 406 i had before
but so far i am thoroughly impressed, i think they must have put more sound deadining in the D9 as its sooo much more quieter than all the D8's i have had

yup, keep it it that rev range and squeeze on the throttle and it should pull well and feel like it wants to pull. Drove an new a6 estate 2.0tdi (auto) the other day, that was so flat compared with my 406! probably alot to do with the auto box thou.

In mine the road noise is lot louder than the engine. At 70 you can only hear the engine if you really listen.

The only problem the D9 has is the people which own them! :P :P :P

I am sooooooo loving this, James loves his D9 :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

Quiet? oooh yes! it is oh-so quiet.

Power band - 1800 to 2800 is best, but never 'floor' the throttle, no use.

My temp gauge points directly at the number 9 of '90'.

And a tenner of Diesel, a couple of gallons, you can do better than that James  if it helps then £30.00 from empty will put just over half a tank on the gauge (and about 260 miles in your pocket).
