Fault codes read today

Post by Baz W »

The car was playing silly buggers today so i popped into my local bosch diesel specialist for a fault code read.

1138 pressure regulator valve - output stage error

0101 air mass sensor - signal improbable

They fiddled about a bit and cleared the codes but cant really say why its over running every now and again then showing engine management light and the fanus 'anti pollution fault'.

Thats 2 garages that cant find out why its doing it, Any suggestions here??

Just love the humour in that code!!
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Are you sitting comfortably?, Then i'll begin.

I know when the car is going to mess me about as it over runs for 4-5 seconds when i turn the ignition off. Next time i start the engine the management light comes on, the car beeps and 'anti pollution fault' is displayed on the screen in the centre console. Then it will not rev over 2500 ish rpm. After a few runs the limp home mode is gone but the light and fault stays. after a few days its all gone and the cars fine. Ive also noticed the revs drop and pick up sometimes when the car is idling at the lights etc, i can feel the revs change and hear it, but this has nothing in common with the other fault. I have also noticed that the fuel economy has dropped recently too.

Its been serviced a few months ago and nothing was reported on that.

Its just an odd fault as 2 seperate garages cant suss it out.

when its not in limp mode does it have the power it should, it sounds like turbo failure and the intake side is full of oil causing the over-run
it would also account for the fault codes

When not in limp home mode but with the engibe light on its running fine, full power. Does seem to use a bit more fuel tho.

The garage i went to phoned this morning and the guy said that he had spoken to bosch technical abou the problem and apparently there is a known fault with the high pressure pumps. Seems it can be stripped and cleaned but that will only prolong the life of the pump by a few months and it if breaks it could fill the injection system with bit of pump or crap and wipe out a few injectors too.

Not sure what to make of that but now im thinking cut my losses and get shot of the car before it dies. Confused now about the whole thing really.

ive heard of this before, you take the pump off and remove the regulator, flush the pump out with diesel, fit a new regulator and refit the pump, but this is normally only done as a last ditch effort when you have the symptoms of pump failure

Ive noticed recently that fuel economy has dropped a fair bit from normal. Yet another symptom of its up and coming death???
