HDI OIL LEEK
Hi. just joined today. i was wanting to know if any one new of what is the cause of the oil leek, that seems to occur on top of the engine, the oil seems to hold just in behind the injectors, the reason i ask his i am about to buy a hd i110 estate, with 88,000 miles on, and when i lifted the hdi plastic cover of you could see the oil gathered right along the top of the head in the holes where i presume the head bolts go, but dont quoete me on that! now this is the 3rd hdi i have seen with this fault, and is slightly putting me of these cars. could any one shed any light on this matter? all the owners i spoke to about the there cars, said they dont use any oil, in between services. could it be something simple like a rocker cover gaskett? any info would help. thank you
Re: HDI OIL LEEK
I'll put money on almost every hdi on the road having oil there! Mine has.
its not a leak, its people missing the hole when they fill it up after changing the oil, thats just where it runs and they no where for it to drain away.
nothing to worry about at all.

Thank you for the reply. i thought it was may be a common fault on these engines. dont like to see any kind of oil leek on a engine. if i purchase the 110 hdi, i will clean the oil up, and see if still leeks, hopefully its just what you mentioned.

Mine is a bit gungy around there too. I also think the large breather pipe off the rocker weeps a bit.
Another (worse) leak can be around the turbo inlet air pipe. Not a problem but it looks pretty horiffic, it's simply oil carry over from the turbo oil seals and/or the oil feed pipe weeping. Again you will not have to top up the oil ever really but worth knowing as it could put you off an otherwise fine car.
