406 glx
hi guys, im a new member, because im thinking of purchasing a 406, i was really looking for the exec turbo, but ive since realised i can afford to insure one, so im looking at the 2.0 glx models.
i drove one the other day, a v reg i think, which was all well and good, not fast as such, but id jumped out of a 1.2 fiesta so....
anyway. i was hoping, having checked out your list of what annoys you guys about your cars and it worries me a little.
can you guys in all good faith recommend be buying the glx model, or do i need to worry that all the lovely gadgets i basically paid my money for will give up?
also, i know there's not one on the sale forum as far as i saw, but does anyone know of a suitable model for sale on here? it'd be nice to know i was buying from somone who'd been looking after it.

Always the same with UK insurance, the more you're prepared to phone arround the cheaper it gets.

Re: 406 glx
yeh, ive been looking at alot of similar cars, and the 406 isnt the cheapest to insure, but hey....
the only other problem is i know official parts can be expensive, and ive heard slightly worrying things about reliability...
how easy can it be to get parts from breakers etc in the uk, and is reliability likely to be a problem?

Re: 406 glx
Breakers local to me always have at least a dozen 406's in,they seem to have a fast throughput with cars there so a weekly visit means you can usualy get what parts you want easily enough at reasonable cost.
Re: 406 glx
i have not had any issue with reliability with both of the 2 i have had
my dad has my old one now and has for years and he hasnt had any either, loads of punctures but that cos of where he drives lol
parts in breakers are easy. there always 1 or 2 in the ones round me. plus theres always people on ebay breaking them etc

Re: 406 glx
The 406 aint too bad, just treat it right. If its a D9 then expect some kind of electrical issues. Random Warning Lights, mainly ABS and Airbag.
Buy my Y reg GTX 2.0 HDi 110bhp 135k miles for £1,500? MOT July 08, Recent new Clutch but currently cant get 2nd gear, Airbag and ABS warning light is on.

Re: 406 glx
i need to sell my old car, you could buy that, its a D8 GLX 2.0 16v but i have spent the past 16months of ownership upgrading everything to make it an exec.
the D8 stopped at 1999

Re: 406 glx
Since you're on a budget I'd definitely advise you to get a D8. Electrical problems although rare, can usually be fixed without having to bend over with your pants down at the dealers
