Fuel filler cap light

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Fuel filler cap light

Post by JimH240 »

Recently left filler cap at garage after fill up. Only noticed the next day that dashboard warning light on (top left end of dash and hidden by steering wheel).

Found a replacement cap on ebay. It fits perfectly but dash light remains on. Any ideas why light still on, or how i can turn it off??

You do realise there's a hook on the bottom of the flap for holding the cap don't you? (only noticed it when I got the D9  )

There's a light? That's a new one on me! And I've had that all to pieces on my D9 too!! Maybe it's a UK thing... Obviously there was something on your cap that the new one lacks, have a squint in the filler neck to see if you spot any switches or anything (right there? Are Pug mad??). Maybe you can knobble it, disconnect it or modify yur cap. Failing that, it's off to Pug you go :(

I have a 2000 HDi 90 Rapier. Found out about the hook on the flap when reading manual afterwards trying to suss out the dash light! I'd never noticed it before.
Can't see nothing electrical around the cap. Think i'll just live with the light on.

You could always take the clocks out and remove the bulb...

Some of us get the really posh multifunction display warning message

I only found out when this subject came up on the forum previously and I went outside to experiment. Can't say I noticed a dash light for it though, guess that needs further experimentation :?

Now *that's* not something you can ignore!

Ah, those lovely messages, my favourite is "automatic wiping active", not something you'd want to see if you were using one of them high-tech bogs down in London...

There was an old thread on this.

If I recall correctly there was an intrinsically safe reed switch in the filler neck that detects the cap by a magnet.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Cap works so just going to leave it with the light on. Thanks for replies.

Love that posh multifunction display warning message though. Should be standard.

hi jim just had same problem if you go under car behind drivers side rear wheel you'll see wiring running down from the reed switch,it follows the filler neck to the tank, follow it and theres a multiplug before it disappears under car disconnect it cover both ends with insulation tape and tuck in somewhere so it's not hanging down job done light goes off. :P
