Stereo Wiring cut

Some nice chap swiped the stereo out of my 406 (2000 X reg)
I think the thief was a bit retarded because he/she cut every single wire rather than unplug the stereo !
I managed to pick up a side window and codefree stereo on eBay but I can't connect it because I have no plugs just a bunch of frayed multicolored wires
The connections needed are for the speakers, and the control on the steering column as well as power. Does anyone know where I can get these plugs complete with the loom, or at least enough wire attached so that I can patch the old wires in?
I found someone on the web who was scrapping one of these, but he wants 20 pounds, plus 5 pounds postage which I feel is a little expensive. Local scrapyards don't have any of this model, and I'm suffering without my music and traffic reports.

yep I guess you are right, if it was the main wiring loom that I need.
What I actually want are the couple of plastic plug in connectors to fit the back of the standard Pug fit CD stereo, preferably with a bit of wire attached to the relevant pins so that I can patch it into my loom with some crimp connectors. The plugs on their own would be fine, if I can find a wiring diagram with the pin outs and colours listed.

My D8 owner's manual has a wiring colour breakdown, perhaps the D9 does too??

I installed a new stereo when I bought my car and didn't bother chasing a correct socket for it, I just cut the lot and patched the wires myself, but I had plenty of slack to work with. In any case, if the thief has cut the wires and has taken the original socket with him you'll be patching cut wires regardless, be it into a socket or directly onto the wiring of the stereo.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I managed to buy the necessary plugs with 6 inches of wire connected to each pin, from someone who was scraping a car. The colours don't seem to match my loom exactly so I can't think of a way of joining them up without wiring diagrams which include the pin locations on the plugs and show the correct colours that are in my car. I've noticed that there seem to be a lot of wires with identical colours on the car loom so I may not be able to identify them exactly, even with a diagram. I have thought about trying to identify the speaker wires by taking the plastic covers off and using a battery and a bulb to find the correct ends, then I will only need to know where each speaker should be connected to the radio and I will have sound. I have worked out where the power connects to the radio and can get it to light up. Perhaps there is a way of detecting the speaker output with a meter when the radio is on? Though I'm worried about running it without a load in case it blows the output. As you can probably tell, I don't have any electrical or radio knowledge... nor do I have a handbook with wiring diagrams. I've just started having other major electrical issues which I will post a question about shortly and these have taken the pressure off getting the radio working, no point in a radio in a car that seems knackered !

Thanks for the link...I note the technique with the 9V battery...all I now need id to know what wires come from which terminals on the dedicated stereo unit. Exhaustive searching on the web hasn't pulled up any pin-out data for this stereo and then there is the connections to the control stalk !

8 Pin black connector (main)

1 - n/c
2 - Red (Green tracer)
3 - White (Green tracer)
4 - Red
5 - n/c
6 - White
7 - Mauve
8 - Green/Yellow

6 Pin green connector (Navigation unit???)

7 - Brown (Red tracer)
8 - Green (Red tracer)
9 - Brown (Red tracer)

8 Pin white connector (speakers)

1 - Orange
2 - Brown
3 - Red & Mauve
4 - White & Red (changes to green after a connector)
5 - Red & Mauve
6 - White & Green
7 - Orange
8 - Brown

Speakers are the white connector

1 & 2 - RH rear
3 & 4 - RH front (door & tweeter)
5 & 6 - LH front (door & tweeter)
7 & 8 - LH rear
