Insurance Question - Traders Policy?

Post by Tiny Tim »

Hi guys, not sure if any of you can help/give advice but its worth a try.

A friend and I are looking to start a small (from home) 'business' buying cheap cars that need work and selling them on + working on our 'specialist subject' cars, Renault turbos... Question is, would a traders policy be the best route and if so, how much are we looking at paying?

Currently, between us we have - My 406 (Everyday car, my personal car, that wont change), his Clio (Undergoing an engine conversion and will be used primarily for track days but road legal aswell) and a Renault 11 Turbo (Un-insured, off road SORN.. will be doing it up and selling on probably). - My question relates to the 11 and my car for example... under a traders policy, will my own personal car be covered? - Obviously we'll need to insure the 11 to get it to the MOT garage etc.

Hope that makes sense

Do a search on Google for Traders Car Insurance. I beleive they start from around £1,000.

Do a search on the Barry Boys - there is a thread where a police officer member nicked a guy for no insurance, followed by cries of crush it, crush it ...

Point is the guy "thought" he was covered on his traders insurance, but was not. It seems that it does not cover for "personal" cars.

Speak to a broker and see what they say.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

You can get traders policy that cover your own car but cover depends on the insurer selling the policy. The way the vehicle is insured it will still be registered on the MID so if you are pulled it should show up on the police check as being insured.
