I Have a ... 1998 2.1TD (R reg) with a lucus pump

One thing to beware of is that the car will smell like a chippy, so it's difficult to pretend that you're not using veggie oil. And of course if you admit that you are then you may be asked to prove that you've paid the fuel duty on it. The way around this is to register with the necessary authorities and to pay the tax. It's up to you to declare how much you've used, but it's quite difficult to keep track of really, isn't it?

Do a search on the internet, there's tons of info on there.
Re: Veggy Oil in Diesel
I Stand CorrectedWhat's wrong with tesco value ? My mates get the 3 litlre bottles of cheapo oil from lidl or aldi, works fine

i was under the impression that the cheapo oil wouldn't be anygood, i was sure i read people posting things saying only to use posher oils.
well value oil it is lol.... ill ave to find someone with a cash n carry card lol

thankyou everso much 4 the info, hopefully save a few bob.
What a JOKE. the goverment really suck dont they.you may be asked to prove that you've paid the fuel duty on it
so are you saying you got to pay for oil you get from a shop.... or just free oil from chippys etc ???

Both!!! If you are using it for transport they want you to pay tax on whatever you're using to power your car, be it petrol, diesel, veg oil, biodiesel or bird sh!t. Anyway, shame on you, you know the government need to raise taxes to pay for.. er...umm..oh, you know...errrr... aha! - whatever it is that they spend all our money on.so are you saying you got to pay for oil you get from a shop.... or just free oil from chippys etc ???
...and on to the U.K.'s wonderful public transport system....while the goverment try to push us POOR people off the roads.

Re: Veggy Oil in Diesel
Yes indeed, new or old, if you're using it for fuel you are supposed to pay the extra tax. Mind you, I've probably got about 10 mates who use veggie in their 4X4s, and AFAIK only 2 of them pay any duty at all on it, and no-one's ever mentioned having any problems with the authorities.
We were out on a trip one day when one of my mates with a Discovery TDi announced he needed a fill up, so we pulled into tesco. He dissappeared into the shop and came out with 10 3l bottles of veggie, filled it there and then in the car park while we took the piss, then drove round to the pumps and filled up the rest of the tank with diesel. Just such a unnatural thing to watch, kept me chuckling all day that did.

Re: Veggy Oil in Diesel
ISTR you're allowed to use something like 2500 litres of fuel you've produced yourself (ie filtered used oil) before you have to pay tax
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

A few of the posts in this thread...
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3680&p=35827&hilit= ... ump#p35827
seem to suggest that Veggie Oil and Lucas pumps are a bad idea, I think because of it's electronic injection?
If this is this correct then the OP might have a problem with his 2.1.
ETA: This article says that upto 2500 litres is free from duty, as mentioned before...

This site also has lots of very detailed and useful info. Search the vehicle database for 'Peugeot'. There are several informative reports:

Re: Veggy Oil in Diesel
Oh yeah, rules changed in June '07 apparently, wasn't aware of that. So as long as you use less than 2500l a year (and keep the receipts to prove it) you DON'T have to pay extra duty on it.That's much better, I'm not about to change my car but I'm now in the market for a diesel engined 4X4........... or a diesel engine for my 4X4.

Re: Veggy Oil in Diesel
From further reading it seems it's best not to bother if you have a Lucas pump, unless you're willing to install a two-tank system similar to LPG.
Glad mine's got a Bosch!! Will probably try a 50/50 mix once I've finished servicing and know everything's in good condition.

See the last site I linked to - I've just spent the evening reading up and it's very useful.nipper76 wrote:so... now the new question is.... can i change my pump?? at what would be the recomended donar + dose it matter?? i.e could they affect your HP if you get it from a lower powerd car??

As to the Government, so long as you keep the receipts to prove you haven't used over 2.5K litres per year you're fine. That's one of the reasons I like this so much - the chance to stuff GB's revenue up and 'save the Planet' at the same time.

Re: Veggy Oil in Diesel
I too have an R reg 2.1TD (with 225k) and until recently, I was adding Lidl veg oil at the rate of 3 Litres per £20 Diesel.
[I intend to increase the ration as the weather gets warmer!]
The car ran well with no problems to report.
Two reasons I stopped for the moment:
(1) Cold weather (and we had a few bad frosts) thickens the oil and makes starting hard, especially if, like me you only do short journeys in the dark and cold!
Having the headlights/Fogs//Fan/Heated screen etc on full for only 10 minutes does knacker the battery.
With a thick, cold veg oil mix you will need the extra cranking /glow plug power of a strong battery....
(2) I needed an MOT - took it for a test and it failed BADLY on emissions, like 4 times higher than they should be....
Upon investigation, it would appear that Lidls finest picks up all the crap which normally sits at the bottom of your tank and pulls it up-line into your fuel filter bowl.
What happens next is that the MOT tester floors the pedal for the test and sucks the crap into the injection system which then gives a POOR
reading and results in a fail.
I was advised to stop using Veg for the period of the MOT test and change the Fuel filter TWICE in quick succession and in between changes make sure I drove the car in 3rd gear on the rev limiter for a short period of time.
Due to circumstances (my health) beyond my control I have yet to complete all of the above but it sounds good - perhaps someone with more Pug experience than me would care to comment so that this procedure can be of assistance to all Puggy people
Best Wishes to all (and a beleted HNY if I didn't already say it
)
Cheers, Graeme
