You need a twin-tank setup similar to the LPG setup found on Petrol cars. You start and finish driving on Diesel and then switch to SVO while driving.

The site above has some good diagrams of Twin Tank setups and advice on how to go about it.

Found this,
[quote]
Other vehicle manufacturers remain cautious over use of biodiesel. In the UK many only maintain their engine warranties for use with maximum 5% biodiesel — blended in with 95% conventional diesel — although this position is generally considered to be overly cautious.Scania and Volkswagen are exceptions, allowing most of their engines to operate on 100% biodiesel. Peugeot and Citroën are also exceptions in that they have both recently announced that their PSA HDi engine can run on 30% biodiesel. [quote]

and this,

Might have to give it a try.

Guys
The use of waste oil is a pain. Fresh oil was fine in my old 4X4. I started off paying duty on the oil I used but it was left to each person to declare what they used.
This was scrapped at the end of last year and there is no duty to pay on oil as fuel now .

a friend of mine runs a spare parts store...(car parts mainly)

basically...he had a nice little clio 1.9 diesel...(approx. '98 i think he said)

picked it up for a little over £250...
ran the engine on 3/4 veg oil to 1/4 diesel...

with the type of mileage he did, saved himself about £1500 a yr....
when that car packed up...he repeated the process....
other then that he has an M5 (which he treats nicely)

my advice...pick up a banger to do it in, the engine will inevitably die....whether its the veggie oil...
or if it was the engines time to go....and when that happens...start over!

I run a 1998 2.2 DT Laguna on 95% Standard Vegetable Oil. I pick it up for 55p per litre.

My car is suitable because it is IDI *Indirect Injection, and has a Bosch Pump. Therfore I can add SVO straight into the tank with no mods.

I wait for the fuel light to come on then add 5 Litres of Diesel to the tank. I then top up the rest with SVO (a further 60L).

I only add diesel as it is cold at the moment and this helps stop the Veg Oil from going thick and taking a while to start (about 30 secs with no Oil). It starts fine with the current mixture, even in the snow last week. In the summer I will try 100% SVO.

Lucas pumps (and therefore th Pug 406 2.1 Diesel) are not suitable for running on Veg. Sorry!

I had an Vectra 1.7TD Isuzu engine. That was capable of going SVO, but I didn't have the balls to try it.

I see people complaining about £1.11 p/l, its getting upto £118.9 up here.

One of the reason i've requested a meeting with the boss to arrange a payrise lol

= 1 tank Kit.

...If I was you I would try a few litres at a time mixed with the Diesel. After all, Diesels were designed to run on Peanut Oil!

A good link.....

Lucas pumps are a complete no go for Veg Oil and I believe that all 2.1s unfortunatly have them.
I have a 1.9TD with a Bosch pump and have run it on a very high blend of Veg Oil/Diesel sincie I bought it a few months ago, at the moment probably about 80% SVO and 20% Diesel, when it starts getting colder I will probably go down to about a 60/40 mix, I've had a 405 and a couple of Xantias previously all 1.9s with a Bosch pump and all ran SVO fine with no problems at all, the 405 was noticably the quickest of the lot though!!.

I think ksantias are about the same weight as the 406 but the 405 is a fair bit lighter.

What I'd like to know is what happens when you try and squeeze a few more horses out of a 1.9 running on veg oil...

I don't think it would make any difference upping the power while running Veg, it would be the same as running Diesel I would have thought.
