We've got a 19 year old very annoying bastard lazy arsed cheeky work shy fop who is always 'ill' on Monday's and has a huge chip on his shoulder and he gets £18,200.00Captain Jack wrote:What's the starting salary?

An adult with reasonable practical skills and some experience would get about £20K and a fully experienced worker on a basic week would be £26K but there is *loads* of overtime. Contracting though can see you working anywhere from Scotland to Cornwall so lots of travelling in a smelly rancid fart ridden van with your 'collegues' reading the Sport Newspaper and scratching there gonads a lot. And you need to smoke roll-ups and eat lots of shitty greasy crap from those white caravans on the A roads

I dunno, the Corgi stuff or something similar sounds like easy money to me. You get charged a fortune for calling the buggers out and that's before they've done anything.
If you can sevice your car it's not much of a leap to changing a tap or taking a boiler to bits (done both of these many times despite lack of appropriate paperwork

The good about other wives is that you don't get to live with them for your apparent mistakes. You charge them and go down the pub.

Re: Career change?
You mention you want to be an Airline pilot, but have you ever considered being a aircraft maintenance engineer?
I orginally wanted to be a pilot but couldn't afford the training
I'm now training as an Avionics engineer, which with your previous IT, you may find interesting. You still get to work on the large commercial aircraft and to be honest its much more interesting than flying them....although somewhat less glamourous!
Failing that i hear dolly trolley training is quite easy!

Avionics engineer? That's an idea.... How much does training cost? And how much does it pay? (Sorry, I know I can Google this, but I thought it's best to hear it from the horse's mouth... and I am lazy)
Automotive electrician.... Hah... I am still pissing about with the bloody switches, as you well know! But I'll let you know the outcome with pictures and all

Re: Career change?
Why don't you go freelance as an IT consultant? That's what I do, and you're never stuck in the same place, you jot about between customers.
There are loads of companies looking for IT consultants, I'm doing the odd bit of contract work at Wembley which varies from back of house support to supporting bar code readers on the gates
Best bit is when all the punters are in you can sneak a view of the match for free!
I've also got mates who are sparky's, they make mega bucks; the city and guilds course is not mega expensive but it's the time involved getting the qualification and you need your Part P certification to do domestic work. I used to do sparks work until the Part P came in

The ways legislation's going before long you'll need to call out an electrician to change a lightbulb.
