My beloved blue 406

Post by PugOFwar »

Hi all,

Im selling my blue peugeot 406 as the time has come to move to something a little less practical. I bought the pug a year and a half ago as something to see me thru the last term at uni, help with moving stuff back home etc.

Its been brilliant on economy and has never missed a beat. In some ways its a little silly that im selling up as the car runs perfectly. Since i bought it.. 20k miles ago, the only thing i have had to do is the Clutch (changed approx 2 months ago) and all of the rear brakes (Discs/pads/handbrake shoes). Its never not started or broken down and as above, apart from changing oil/sparks etc the only things done have been milage related.

There is 0 rust anywhere on the car and the interior has never been smoked or eaten in (have a thing about eating in cars  ). The only thing that is wrong with the car... well not actually the car.. is that the remote keyfob for the central locking isnt working. I believe its the battery however ive got so used to doing it manually ive not bothered changing it.

Car Spec ;-

1996 2.0ltr 16v
95k miles
12 months MOT
6 months Tax
Elec windows
Pas
Abs
Driver and passanger airbags
5 Speed manual
Elec sunroof
Good quality sound system
Remote central locking
Alarm
Keycode imboliser
Really good condition inside and out

Mods ;-
17" MasItaly Alloys
205/40/17 Toyos all round
Twin cone induction kit
Cobra 5" Exhaust system
CD/DVD Player (no screen)

I do have all of the standard parts, all four wheels/airfilter/radio etc. So these can with on the car if prefered. Comes with a big folder full of service history, receipts and manuals.

Please get in touch if you have any questions, I am based in Leicester however i dnt mind travelling. Plenty more pics available upon request.

Im looking for around £1000 for it or if anyone has anything for a swap/px please let me know.

Thanks all for looking :D

I thought it looked familiar. Back then he said he was hoping for the better part of a grand. Talk about inflation!

Have edited to a more.. Realistic price  ... I had completely forgot the previous post and what people said. I dont really want to go much lower than a grand though, i reckon the car is worth that.

If you really think the remote problem is the battery get it changed, if I was buying the car and you told me that I'd think "yeah, right, I bet the whole system's fooked and it costs a grand to fix, that's why you haven't bothered".

thats still too high, it doesnt even have A/C
an exec in the same condition/mileage/age wouldnt even cost that much

And the 2nd one - one of the cheaper ones - has been listed since november. It doesn't matter what a dealer thinks it's worth, if you want to sell a car you have to put the price near what punters think it's worth.

2 years ago I bought a near perfect (just a few supermarket battle scars) exec turbo for less than any of those cars. 100k miles, top trim level, powerful engine. If I needed a 406 and saw the same ebay ad today, I'd pay 7-800 tops. In fact just the other month I bought another exec turbo for under £200.

Lots of people are just keeping onto them as the resale value makes it more worth running into the ground. Take mine for instance. If I sort out the dodgy idling on mine, I'd like to think I'd be able to sell it on here for over £500 because everyone knows how rock solid it's been for me, but I'd only get about £200 for it elsewhere due to the astronomical mileage.
